A tricky pass

Navigational finesse will be rewarded during the major difficulty of this first week which will be contested off track. Absolutely off-track. Indications will be sparse on the road-book, and those who miss the WPM’s will have all their work cut out to find the right passes. After the dunes, competitors will be driving along stony plateaux and slaloming in camel grass.

Nani Roma: "From here on, the Dakar gets really serious. We'll have to face dunes from the start, then there will be a series of hard tracks with a lot of stones, and then we'll have to cross two complicated dune chains. I think that the hardest Dakar is going to be from here to the Kiffa-Bamako stage."

Marc Coma: "This is start of the complications on a technical level, because we'll find camel grass and dune crossings, added to the already complicated navigation."

MOTO: START 08:20 CET - FINISH 15:30
AUTO: START 10:30 CET - FINISH 17:30


CET = Central Europe Time = GMT+1, so we would be CET-9= PST.... everybody got that?

So: MOTO = 11:20pm start
CARS = 1:30am start

Your start time is based upon your position from the previous stage, not overall position.
