    Re: bronco alternator

I'm using a one wire from Performance Distributors on my prerunner and have been really happy with it. I also ditched the Ford ignition and use their distributor. They are at www.performancedistributors.com.

I've also replaced the Ford alternator on another truck with the GM two wire from the mid '80's and that's worked pretty well, and is an economical option if you are not running a ton of stuff. I don't have the part number any more but you can find a 95 amp stock distributor with v belts. You have to ream out one mounting hole and make a stand-off bushing out of 1" .250 wall tubing, but if I can do it you can.

Anyway, I have no complaints about Performance Distributors.

Richer auto electric 760-757-1201 New 150 amp 3G alt, bolts right up for about 130$ plus shipping...... I have had Powermasters and other "high output" alternators and they were all junk. They also sell pigtails to hook them up.

    7752N alt
    46-2804 harness
    46-2802 other harness

As you can tell, I just went through this........

    Re: bronco alternator

I figure if the Ford pick-up coil and reluctor are good enough that MSD copied it, that it's good enough for me. I've heard of complaints with the Ford modules, but have never had one fail on any of the vehicles I've converted, even those using all JY parts.
Conversely, the GM modules are power hogs and much more subject to overheating problems. I've debated converting my Sub to some kind of external module just to get it off the engine.

Ollie, if you search 3G's on the FSB bb I'm sure you'll turn up how to convert to one.

    Re: bronco alternator

Like the last one. I would recomend the 2 groove pulley if you can, it's a little hard on a single belt. We carry spares......

The top bolt hole is small and metric. Drilled and tapped for standard 3/8.

Highly recommend the 3G. One of the most popular conversions with the Bronco/Mustang folks - very reliable unit and an easy swap. You can get them in 95 and 130 amp versions stock.

    Re: bronco alternator

Ollie, I'm assuming you've read the thread on FSB.com. There's a lot of goof info there.

Have you tested the charging system to make sure it is working properly? Are the headlamps dim because the alternator isn't producing what it's supposed to. Is there another problem (bad ground, corrosion, etc.). I think the 3G swap is a good idea and plan to do it on my Bronco, but I would want to make sure the electrical system is sound before modifying it.

BTW: I work at a large repair shop and we don't replace a lot of 3g alternators.
I know a little German... he's sitting over there.
