Is a v-8 legal in 7-open?
Just wondering if a Dodge Dakota was legal with a downsized to 4.5L V-8? Are Ford Explorer's legal in 7open?

No and No.
6 cyl max w/ same # of cams/valves of original. 4.5L max, must be same mfr. (not vehicle) and original material. STOCK fuel injection or carb.

I'm wondering, don't you jump to class 8 with a V8 midsize truck?

There really isn't a class for them other than Sportsman. Class 8 is for "Full Size Utility Vehicles". In the past, Mid Size trucks like the Dodge Dakota ran in Class 7 but could not use the V8 option and ran V6 engines.

I read on the BITD site a long time ago that the V8 Dakotas were supposed to race in 8, it was on a FAQ's page or something.

So for Class-7 is a 4.5L engine out of a 1996 Land Cruiser legal to use in a Tacoma frame (original engine 3.4L)? Both are 24 valve DOHC engines. How is the reliability reputation of the 4.5L engine?

as long as it is going in a toyota that motor would work
but i would highly recomed before building a motor that you call savage aand run it by him
you dont wantot spend 10k on a motor jsut to show up at your first race and have it not be legal

the BITD new 7-Open class will basically be trophy trucks with V6s..they will be able to get as much horsepower as you can out of them...not limit on suspension, except the 84" trackwidth, so these trucks are going to be pretty awesome...i know of one team that's thinking of modifying their never finished trophy truck to run this class...they are currently running normal class 7. i leave it up to everyone to think about?
