Try Valley Transmission off of 2nd in El Cajon. They build good stuff. I just tonight finished rebuilding my AOD in our Class 3 Bronco. The clutchs and Bands are easy to replace. Good Luck

I also agree Valley Transmission on 2nd street is a great place. They have this 5 year warrantee. Also they are part of some Transmission Orginazation (cant remember the name) which means if you are not in San Diego and the transmisson fails you call a number on the warrantee form and they will tell you where to take it or have a tow truck come pick it up.
I had a 87 Ranger built up pretty nice and they did the trans in it. Coming back from the 2000 Baja 2000 the bed was loaded with pit equipment and spares and I lost overdrive on the way home. I drove from San Quetin to home in 3rd. I took the truck to them and they pulled the trans apart and found a clip that holds the overdrive drum and broke. They never asked if I was off-roading or anything. And they knew I was in Baja for the race. They replaced everything because the clip disintegrated and went threw the cluches and valvebody. All was covered under the warrantee.
Also they are very familiar with off-road trucks. They have done alot of race transmissions in there time. There are pictures of Simons old 7 truck and Johnny Johnsons trucks and I think they also did Mark Newhans trucks also. His red truck was there the same time mine was. There is a story about Marks torque converter. Pretty funny.

Re: Tranny shop in SD?
The master rebuild kit cost $100 and the racing 2500 stall torque converter cost $150. I got a great deal on the converter on ebay. We are going to put it back in the bronco this weekend.
We just took out a prerunner cage made out of 1.75X.120 out of the bronco. We are going to put a 2in race cage in the bronco and hope to make it to the April 15 MDR race. I will be putting pics on my website as we work on it.
