    My new Uniball Cup design

I designed this new Uniball housing using SolidWorks and my machinist friend made a dozen for me. I may be able to do a small production run if there is enough interest. You can check it out at McKenzies in the display case with the heims and uniballs.

The reasoning behind this design is to get more surface area for welding, and to prevent cup warpage. The cup also has a thicker wall to eliminate any need for strapping around the cup. It can be used equally well in the vertical or horizontal position. A firm price has not been set yet, but it may be around $50, plus or minus, depending on quantity and whether they are made from cold rolled steel or 4130.

The pics are as it was designed, machined, and uniball installed. Any comments are welcome.

Looks good. Make them from 4130. The price difference can't be that much. Another possibility is an angled cup design (20-25 deg) for lower arms and maybe a web down the center of the pocket. Good idea. The dam cups allways shrink or go out of round when you weld them.

Im agree with Sup on all points. Also you might think about making them for the BIG uniballs as well, I am sussuming that they are made for the 1" uniballs. Make them and they will sell.

The problem with custom products like this is the infinite number of variations that are possible. Everybody has a slightly different vision of what they would like. I considered the web in the pocket, and have four made that way. I tried to make the parts light and strong, and the most universal shape I could think of. I have not made any for a 1.5" uniball, but could make some for a special order.

Is the one Matt showed from the Tundra with the shocks on the upper arm?

Re: My new Uniball Cup design

What is it supposed to interface with? Another machined part? Square/round tube?

Is there a reason behind the added radius and not just go tangent with the cup?

How deep is the hogged out section?

    How much does it weigh?

Re: My new Uniball Cup design

    Wow Kris, tough questions. LOL

To answer the first two, I designed the extension to be a universal size of 1.5 x 2.5 to match up to the widest variety of square, rectagular, and round tube, or plated arms.

The pocket is as deep as the cup wall thickness.

I forgot to weigh one, so I will have to get back to you...
