Dual In-Line Electric Fuel Pump Recommendations?
I want to run in-line dual electric fuel pumps. I want to be able to flip a switch to transfer from fuel pump #1 to fuel pump #2. Recommendations?
This for a VW Type I Class 12 SCORE Lite motor with a Weber 44 IDF. I need the fuel pump arrangement to be able to feed a dual Weber 44 IDF carb setup in case I run the car in Class 10. I have the Holley fuel pumps, but they cannot be run in-line. If I encounter a fuel pump failure, I need to stop and get out of the car to switch lines. I had great luck in my 2-1600 car with the cheapie Facet fuel pumps with an in-line setup, but not sure if they put out enough volume.

Re: Dual In-Line Electric Fuel Pump Recommendations?
To run dual holleys you can split the line with a Y-block before the pumps, go to the pumps, then run a check valve after each pump, and a Y-block to get back together. The check valves make sure the fuel goes the right direction...obviously. G&J has the valves, or you could order it all (blocks, valves) from Jegs. I'm doing this same thing right now...Hope that's what you're looking for.

Re: Dual In-Line Electric Fuel Pump Recommendations?
Is there a reason to go to all that hassle to run dual Holley's? I spoke with an experienced racer that had the dual Holley setup with the check valves, but he said it wasn't worth dealing with all the extra crap on the car so he switched over to dual Facet pumps. He said the dual Facets work great, but every once in a while the engine bobbles and when that happens they flip a switch to run both pumps simultaneously. That prompted my doubts about whether a Facet puts out enough volume to feed the carb. I imagine this would get worse with dual carbs.
Are there any other commonly-used, race-proven options besides Holley or Facet? I want to run a simple dual in-line setup without Y-splitters and check valves.

Re: Dual In-Line Electric Fuel Pump Recommendations?
Scott,
The holleys are a more durable pump than the facets that's why it might be worth the hassle. They also can pump alot higher volume. With dual carbs you might run into problems of running out of fuel on ling straight runs like a dry lake bed using the Facet. With the holleys you will not have that problem. You can run the facets inline because you pump and/or pull through the non-operable one. You will not be able to do that with the Holleys. Good luck and keep that hotrod moving.

Could put a manual 3-way valve on either end of the pair of pumps. Would still need the 'Y' on the other but not the check valves.
Would HIGHLY recomend that a micro switch be added to the valve such that the pump that is 'open' is the pump that gets power.
What is wrong with using a stock mech. pump?
TS
My opinon is worth what you paid me for it.

Not enough volume to keep up with Dual Webers on long straight stretches. The carbs actually run out of gas and sputter. It is also alot easier to diagnose a bad electric pump than the stock mechanical. Lastly with all of the stuff around the back of the motor on a VW it is much easier to replace a remote electrical pump than monkeying around with the mechanical pump.
Scott are you racing the March MORE race??

The facet pump should be fine. We ran one on a screaming dual carbed 2274 and never had fuel problems. You need a good regulator set at 2 lbs with weber carbs to keep from pushing the needle & seat open.

Wish I was. That 12 car is too much fun! I have two 1600 cars that I need to sell and I told myself I won't play with the 12 car again until I get things in order with the 1600 cars. How's that for motivation???

I agree on the regulator and 2 PSI. Maybe my problems stemmed from my motor size. I am running a 2840 Type IV. That's alot more fuel than a 2274. It used to run out of fuel on long, wide open runs like Anderson Dry Lake at Lucerne. Since switching to a high volume pump I haven't had that problem.

Re: Dual In-Line Electric Fuel Pump Recommendations?
We had dual facet's plumbed in-line and ran into a volume problem on a 1600 car. We replaced them both and eliminated the problem, but will be plumbing them differently in the future.
We had a hard time diagnosing that the problem was the pumps, due to the fact that the engine ran the same, (sputter, it actually fell on it's face, on top end after a long run), on either pump.
We pulled our hair out with this one. I would Y them rather then run in series.
