Tundra Brakes
A friend of mine has an '01 Tundra and has developed the shudder/vibration, etc. that seems to be a very common problem with the Tundras. The truck is now out of warranty and Toyota of course doesn't want to help with the problem.
I'm wondering what any fellow Tundra owners in the off road world have done to solve these problems. I would think most folks that use their trucks for any bit of prerunning, etc. would be a lot harder on their brakes than my friend is with her truck (light street use, no towing, etc.).
If you have any recommendations on replacement rotors, etc., I'd love to hear them.
Thanks,
Todd Z.

Re: Tundra Brakes
Try posting this question on www.tundrasolutions.com or www.tacomaterritory.com. It's a common problem and there are a few different solutions.

Re: Tundra Brakes
What toyota did to fix the problem is to put larger calipers and pads on the front. They also have drums for the rear that have a lot more mass on them to keep them from going out of round. The new bigger calipers are found on tundras from 2003 and up. You could put those on, but youll have to trim the backing plate to allow the new calipers to fit.

Re: Tundra Brakes
There was a customer satisfaction recall on those brakes and bearings, rotors, calipers and pads were replaced for free. Go back to the dealer and lean on them.

Thanks Ramsey. Yeah, we've tried leaning with no luck so far. One guy here at work had his done at 43K miles. My other friend with the current issues has 51K on her truck. Called Toyota Corporate this morning without much luck. Amazing how much stuff you find about them on the web - found some info this morning on a class action lawsuit against Toyota, etc.

Re: Tundra Brakes
The brake concern is only a TSB and is covered by the factory 3 yr 36k warranty. When we were doing them all the time, the only ones we did out of warranty that were covered by toyota were the ones who had a previous complaint from before the TSB or the customer had a good service history and was just barely out of warranty. Toyota would goodwill the parts then.

Re: Tundra Brakes
I have added Bear Deccelarotors to my 05 Tundra and noticed a great brake improvement!
