    Choosing a Bike

I need some input from you guys on choosing a new bike. I will be a recreational rider and also some pre-running. I want to be able to trail ride with my son, but also go on Baja trips. I am looking at the WR250F and WR450F. Any feed back would be helpful.

    Re: Choosing a Bike

Personally, I'd not choose a Yamaha for a recreational play and sometimes pre-runner. YZs are great when you got the throttle wide open and you are hammering, as soon as you back off they'll swap ends. In other words the YZ is a great race bike, a handful to play ride. Go with an XR. I'd go with a good used 600 if the weight isn't too much for you. The 400 is almost as much weight, a lot less HP, and has a pair of noodles for a fork IMHO. Either one however will serve you well for years, and you won't have to worry about getting pulled out of the dez on the end of a rope.

Steelman never mentioned a YZ, he asked about the WR450F, the WR would be a great bike for you, has plenty of power for baja, trail/play riding is great on these bike's, XR400 is discontinued from Honda, don't get me wrong, i love XR's as well, i have a 650R and a WR450 and i live in baja, for trail riding and baja preruning the blue bike is awesome, very reliable also.

I dont think you can go wrong with one of the new Huskys with a plate. There great play bikes. There really stable, handel well, reliable and not over priced for a new bike.

    Re: Choosing a Bike

I was doing some more research on bikes last night and found it interesting that the MSRP on a XR650 is less than CRF450?? Is it better to make the jump to the bigger bike for a novice rider for what I will be using it for??

    Re: Choosing a Bike

The XR650 is heavier but much more reliable than the crf and there is no problem running pemex (mexican gas) in the 650. If its between the 650 and 450 for trail riding and prerunning go with the 650. Less maintance and it will run forever. If you call around to different dealerships you might be able to find a new one that is last years model for a discounted price.
