93 2wd Explorer
I recently purchased a 93 Explorer, I am looking to what options I have for raising the front for clearance and add little bit of travel. It will mainly be a pavement pounder and see a little dirt either out testing or at a race. Any suggestions on which way to go? I know the easiest is either coil spacers or lift coils but want a little more than that will give.

Re: 93 2wd Explorer
Drop brackets will do the trick if its just looks pavement pounding, but from what I hear they don't last to long offroad. So your best bet would be a set of bent beams, if I were looking fo a bolt on kit I would go to either Camburg or Autofab, both have stage type kits so you can upgrade as you go into the dirt more.

Re: 93 2wd Explorer
With drop brackets you're not changing the spring rate and there is not a need for modified/ new radius arms. So the vehicle drives similarly but is more top heavy; same as a spinde lift on the a-arm trucks. You will need a drop pitman arm to correct the steering geometry.
With bent beams you'll need new/ modified radius arms to correct for the caster lost with the lift, and you will obviously have a new spring rate.

A bent beam kit with stock-modified beams is the most bang for your buck.

Re: 93 2wd Explorer
It is my understanding the suspension on the Explorer is the same as a Ranger, so will a bent beam kit from who ever bolt right on the same as it would a Ranger?
Thank you everyone for all your input so far.

Re: 93 2wd Explorer
Yes the Explorer fronted is the same as the Ranger. If I was doing this I would not use bent beams. First off the beams for 93 are cast and are not to be bent or heated and when you bend them they become shorter so you loose track width. I would instead use drop pivot brakets for a 4" lift for the beams (anything bigger than 4" will drag when you bottom out), a lift coil, a 2.0 or 2.5 shock and extended radius arms. Oh yeah and a drop pitman arm. You can pull 15"+ with this setup but you will find you want to limit it to just under 14" or it gets a little hairy to drive. Do not use drop brackets for the radius arms as they will drag!

Re: 93 2wd Explorer
2wd Explorer and 4wd Explorer frames are almost identical. Because of this they do not use the same beams and beam pivot brackets as their Ranger counterparts.
4wd Explorer and Ranger frames are the same.

Re: 93 2wd Explorer
Bent beams or drop brackets work . I found drop brackets and radius arm instructions on the Fabtech websit however the kit is not listed in the catalog. Does anyone know if they still make the kit?

Give John at Ajax Auto Wrecking a call, he may be able to help you out: 800-606-6043. Or you could just get something like a Rough Country 4" lift and just upgrade the shocks when you can afford it. Just don't use the radius arm drop backets and plan bottoming out hard. I would go with extended radius arms instead.
