    HEI for a 351W

    A spin-off from Smokee's 351 Windsor thread....

I had been planning on buying a DUI HEI distributor for my Bronco, but I came across an HEI distributor made by Proform. I searched several forums and wasn't able to find any poor reviews. Anyone have any experience with these or any other HEI distributors on Ford small blocks?

EDIT: Pertronix also makes one for the 302. As far as I know the only difference between the 302 and 351W distributors is the gear. Is that right?

Thats the way to go. Jeggs sells good parts. $199 seems like a great price.

I have had bad luck with the Pertronix in the past, but that was a while ago; and with thier
optical trigger points replacement set up.

Not sick in that "extreme" kind of way, its more of a weak stomach thing.

I've had a DUI distributor on a 400m for a couple of years now and it's great. Solved all my ignition bugs. It does interfere with my smog pump, but I'll figure that out when I need to.

    Update:

I still haven't done anything, but I found out Mallory also makes an HEI distributor for Ford small blocks.

302 to 351..... You may run into a clearance issue with the manifold due to the taller deck and the larger DIA of the HEI unit.

They have 2 part numbers. One for the 302 and one for the 351, I don't know if the housing is different. Several people on other forums have tried them with success.

    Re: HEI for a 351W

I have not ran a DUI in a car, but I have ran a DUI HEI in my 21 ft Jet Boat. It runs all day between 3500 and 5800 rpm, only idling down for beach stops and in the harbor. I was running a stock HEI and after about 20 minutes it would start missing and stalling alot until she cooled. The DUI HEI solved all of that. Like I said, THis may not be a good comparison, but Jet boat engines run alot harder than most car/truck engines do, for a longer period as well and the DUI is great in the boat.....Good Luck. ANd it sure beats the price of the $800 MSD set up.

    Update for an old thread:

    http://www.performancedistributors.com/forddui.htm

DUI is giving 10% off their distributors making their street/strip 351W HEI unit $332.
