Most common buggy suspension setup...
Hey guys, im a newbie when it comes to offroad suspension designs but i've joined a club at my school where we are building a buggy. Its much smaller than your race buggy's that race in the baja 1000 but we want to implement state of the art suspension designs.
SO..... to start my research, what is the most common types of front and rear suspension on buggys? Trailing arm rear? Double wishbones? Uneven A-arm?
Last years buggy had 3ft long trailing arms (the car was roughly only 6-7ft long max) and they worked brilliantly. But we need to design something different, so we want to stay with trailing arms but maybe adjust the placement and even do a pushrod shock or something. Anyone know anything about pushrod suspensions on off road vehicles?
Also, what kind of alignment figures are typically accepted? Camber/caster/toe? From my days of RC buggies, they always had tons of caster in the front and slight camber in all 4 wheels. Is it very beneficial to have a bunch of caster in the front?
I can study pictures for hours, so if you have any pics of your buggies front and/or rear suspension PLEASE post.
THANKS!!

Re: Most common buggy suspension setup...
Get down to the Costa Mesa fairgrounds this weekend for the Extreme Off Road show. You can ogle hundreds of suspensions in one day. Take design ideas from the race cars and trucks, not the sand rails.
Try to get a look at the new kart from TrophyKart.com.
