Chain steering quickener
I have heard of people running chain or timing belt quickeners. It makes sense because you can have any ratio you want, plus you get offset to straighten the shaft layout. I'm concerned about additional risk, but the breaking strength on #40 chain is over 4,000 pounds. How much riskier is it?

I have seen it used on a prolite,I do not no the size of chain you are refering to but givr it a try, or just go hydraulic steering it so nice.

I remember a old soda/corr truck with a toyota timing chain and gears as the quickener. It seemed to work well.
Sickrick, and the Displaced Desert Racers.
Not sick in that "extreme" kind of way, its more of a weak stomach thing.

I would have no problem using 40 series chain. If you have power steering, the forces involved are very low. Try to find o-ring chain in that size, or just keep the regular chain clean, lubed and happy. You will need a method of keeping the slack out of the chain, like an idler sprocket or adjustable sprocket mounts.

The DeNunzio centersteer Truck uses a cog belt for the offset.
Were it me I'd use the Goodyear Eagle PD Belt for that application. Smoother & less notchy than a chain, plus no ludrication troubles.
