I didn't read the article, but does anyone know the purse for the Mint as opposed to the Baja?

In fear and loathing the banners at the race said $100,000 Purse Worlds Richest Desert Race but that was in 71 not the 80's.

Re: 1984 Mint 400 vs. 2006 Baja 500
It was cool to see that article and a flashback to my early racing days in a Class 11. We won our class and I think it took us almost four hours to do a lap, what a beating! We were lucky enough to win twice in class 11 and the first year of the current class 9. There was nothing better than the Fremont street tech.
It is interesting to read the article and a lot of the same names are still going fast 20 years later. MacCachren, Sourapas, Koch, Julson etc. and many more. There are also a lot of familiar names that used to race all the time that you dont hear about any more.

The fastest class one or two car from the 80's would probably fit into class 12 now.
