? about PCI chase radio
I have the ICOM f121 PCI chase radio and I have put a inline external speaker that is wired with the radios front speaker to work at the same time. I did this for two reasons, 1) I want an external plug that I can plug the speaker into because I wont have access to the back of the radio when it is hard mounted, and 2) I would like to be able to listen to the radio inside and outside of the vehicle at the same time with the windows up. My questions are, has anyone already done this, did you have any problems and is there potential to burn up the amp in the radio? The external speaker is a 4 ohm 5 watt and the install works well and came out pretty clean, I am just worried about long term use. Scott? Anyone? Input is greatly appreciated.

Would you just use a jack extension cord? The circuit would still be open and not pull any juice until you plug a speaker in and close the loop.

When you plug in the extension it cuts out the internal speaker. I think they are useing a stereo plug and the extra contact is a trigger for shutting of the intl spkr.

word i heard is that it should not be aproblem- works great as of now and i will post after i get some real use out of it.
as for the buy a external speaker and plug it in- thats all you need as long as there is an existing jack in the back but it will cut off the internal speaker when you plug it in

Radio shack has a weatherproof speaker for like 15 bucks...I bought one about 5 years ago and it has been beaten in pit boxes, dropped, drenched in beer, etc... and its still kickin.
