I have a '90 Bronco Pre-Runner & I want to mount the Rear Amber light from where I have it now Down deep in the Dust to The top of my Shell.
I'm figuring mounting it high place's it in some lighter Dust then down by the tires...
Anyways I know people have done this before, & I'm hoping to see pics of it done & learn if theres any issues..
with doing so..
I wanna run a light sorta like this...
& mount it into a rubber grommet in the center of the shell above the rear Window.

As long as you have the space and a flat surface you should be able to cut a hole and the rubber gasket thing is what holds the light in place. Only problem I see is you will have to have a flat area or the gasket won't fit and seal and hold he light in like on the curve about the window.
That same light probable come's in a version that you could surface mount and then you could put it about the curve and just screw it to the fiberglass.
The amber lights that most people run are the PIA type that have a metal frame and bolt on or the old school buggy type that have 1 stud bolt for mounting so I don't think you are going to find a pic like you want?

This is what I plan on doing with my Explorer, don't know if you've thought of this.....
Well, I Have that braket on the tailgate that you can see in the Pic But I was thinking it would look nicer & be higher out of the dust above the back window.
It might be easier to make an aluminum piece to hold the light(s). The mounting surface for those lights has to be perfectly flat for them to work very well.

Yeah thats about what I figured... & I wonder about the space in side the shell, If I cut it, will the light I want to use fit?
& how might of another of gone about fabbing up a flat surface etc ...
There is a metal mount available that the light will pop into. I know it's available at RV stores and NAPA auto parts down here so it's got to be avialable up where you are. Probably on Ebay too. Myself, I cut out an oval hole in the tailgate of my f150 very similar to the exploder pictured above. Works pretty well actually. You can probably wire it through the gate right next to the window wires. If you really want it higher you might go to an emergency vehicle website and see if you can figure out how the police and Border Patrol mounted lights in their Broncos. I know it was a bracket on the inside that shown through the window, I just don't remember what it looked like.

Be cautious with a light shining thru the window. They need to seal to the window or the light will reflect off the inside of the glass and be a glare problem.
Can get that bracket with the oval hole from most trailer supply places.
Were it me I'd build an air deflector across the back of the roff to push some air down the back of the Bronco. That would help blow the dust off the rear and should yield a fraction better mpg. Make the deflector to also hold the amber.
It's been pointed out to me that in the event of a chase or spectator vehicle on or near the course that most racers when they see an amber light will assume that you're a racer. I'm not sure which is worse; getting your vehicle tapped b/c that TT is trying to make time and thinks you're a racer in the way b/c of your amber, or getting tapped by a TT b/c he couldn't see you at all.
Kind of confused by the responses about where yo want to put it, but if you are talking about putting it above the window, like where the third brakelight on a truck is, you could probly make a nice mount out of fiberglass. Find something to make an oversized 3 dimensional version of the light then cut it to the countour of the shell.
