John is tearing up Baja, racers stranded...
Hurricane John is tearing up Baja pretty bad; destroying roads, bridges and parts of this year’s Baja 1000 course. Then storm was downgraded from a Hurricane to a Tropical Depression, but it has dumped lots of rain in southern Baja causing major damage.
I received several Sat Phone calls today from a group of desert racers that are stranded behind 15-foot deep flash floods and destroyed roads. They are experienced Baja veterans with very capable vehicles and yet they believe that they are trapped until help in the form of earth moving equipment can be sent to get them out of the remote area.
SCORE and Sal Fish are doing what they can to get them some help. If anyone else knows of resources in the area of Mulege, please let me know.
They will have some interesting stories to tell when the get back, so I will leave that for them to do.

Welcome to old school Baja, hope they all make it back in one piece, and the locals didn't get hit too bad.

Once the center of the system passes, things will dry out rapido and everyone should be able to find a way through. If anyone hears of a true emergency we can make a run from San Felipe if necessary. If it's just TT & Co. they'll be fine as soon as they sober up.

We tried sending out warnings. A post in the race section got remanded to the whatever section...we tried.
A section of our business, Baja Weather Service, called this last week. We had warnings up for all Southern Baja as early as last Thursday. The Mexican weather service never got this right.
