dual rate spring floater
I have 2.5" swayaway dual rate coilovers. The driverside lower coil spring arcs in the shock and is rubbing the shock body. It appears the dual rate floater is tilted a bit off the line of the shock. Is it common for the floaters to wear out and cause a spring to rub? what is causing my spring to rub if it's not the floater? If I replace the floaters should I use swayaways or get an alluminum version? any recomendations?

Re: dual rate spring floater
Your spring isn't strait anymore, thats why your slider is rubbing. Common problem.

Re: dual rate spring floater
On the newer Sway-A-Way coilovers, the shock body isn’t threaded the full length of the can thus the OD is smaller at the bottom of the shock than up on the threaded portion. The ID of the dual rate coil slider is compatible with the threaded portion of the shock body but quite loose on the unthreaded portion allowing it to rock side to side and cant the spring so that it rubs if the slider travels into the unthreaded area. One solution is to get some sliders with the longer skirts like the FOX sliders and install them with the longer skirt down which will hold the spring away from the shock body.

the springs are brand new kings with only about 20 minutes of drive time, could they be bent/twisted allready? I don't thing I've even bottomed out the front end yet.

Pull the springs off and check the flatness of them. make sure where the coils terminate are not right on top of each other where the springs meet the slider.
On a side note...I always recommend eibach.

Yes.
Eibachs have been know to have the same problem. Moving on to Hypercoils.

It is not the coils; it is the design of the Sway-A-Way shock body and their short slider. Trust me on this; I’ve been through it all very recently.

This is always a good idea!

Ahhh, but it is the coils! I have several that have come off of Kings and Bilstiens that have a nice arch in them. Also single rate 800# for the front of the new F150 kits start to rub after about a month. The hillbilly fix is to beltsand the ends square again and run, this actually works for a while.
Right now Me buddy has to replace the can on one of his Kings from the Eibach boomarang.
