New Guy 7300 Questions
Well, I just got back from NC where I went to pick up my new project truck. It's a 92 Ranger 2wd, 4.0L, 5-speed, 8.8 rear. I tried to attach a picture but the upload kept failing. As I have said before I have built many off-road rigs but am brand new to the sport of off-road racing. I am determined to build a 7300 truck to race in BITD.
I've read through the rules many times but still have some questions and want some opinions.
BITD rules state that "all suspension components must retain original stock mounting methods." I take it this means that you have to keep the rear spring over axle rather than under? If so would a set of 2.5 in Long Travel Deaver Leaf springs be my best option in the rear?
As far as the front coils, what are the best kind to use?
Finally, is there a best liked tire size in this class? I was thinking 33's but the more I look at pictures of other trucks it seems there are a lot on 35's.
Thanks for all the help, I know I will have many more questions.

yes the axle must remain spring over axle, as well as the shackle can not be flipped. before you get to far. why not buy a race winning 7300 truck and save alot of money over building one?

Re: New Guy 7300 Questions
Why not buy a truck? Because the whole fun in this for me is building the truck. I have been looking forward to building and fabricating on this truck for a long time. I've got the facilities and the means to build one. Since I will probably realistically only race once a year building and testing a truck that I've built is the way to go for me.
Thanks for the info.
Does anyone have ideas on the front coils or deaver leafs?
thanks,
matt

coil springs can be got from tons of different companys. pick one you like and go with them. deaver is a great choice for the leaf springs. i see your point on fabricating it yourself. its just you can save alot of money and go racing tomorrow if you buy a current race truck.

Re: New Guy 7300 Questions
Thanks for the reply Johnnyweb. I didn't know if there was a specific type coil used for racing or if it was just your average lift coil spring.
What size tires are you running? Anyone else here race 7300? Any advice is appreciated.

the coil springs are typical lift coils. most are available in different spring rates. its hard to say what spring rate you need. usually its a trial and error to find the right sring rate verses dampening in a vehicle. if the vehicle is completely built you can weight it and order accordingly.
