Baja 1000 Pre-running Update
Found this on the SCORE website:
Ojos Negros to San Ignacio Will Open on 10/14.
The course from Ojos Negros to San Ignacio will be marked and open for pre-running on Saturday, October 14th. From San Ignacio to La Paz, SCORE is diligently working with the government of Baja California Sur to repair sections of the course damaged by Hurricane John. The date that pre-running will open from San Ignacio to La Paz has not yet been determined.
Does anyone have any real information as how bad things are to the south and when pre-running will open. Limited information that I have indicates the new section of course from Loreto to K6 is in bad shape.

We are doing a moto ride from San Felipe to Loreto next week so we should be able to tell you how it looks below San Ignacio. We are for sure going to San Juanico, hoping for surf, there was some last Oct! I heard the road to San Juanico is damaged as is the cut over road from La Purisima to Hwy 1, this section I hear is unpassable.

There was at least one 4x4 that made it over on that cut over road from Sn Isidro to hwy 1 after the hurricane and we were able to get our trucks out to hwy 1 after leaving them mid way at Calagua for a week. By now I'd expect the locals have ways of getting through. So that cross over road should be passable.
Anyone heard if you can get from Loreto up to San Javier yet? That might be the bigger issue.

Re: Baja 1000 Pre-running Update
There are five total big breaks south of Loreto. All have goat trails going around the break, with the government in hot pursuit of fixing them. Many more access rout breaks.
The good people at http://www.bajaracingnews.com/ are loading the details.
The worst breaks all are within 150 km of Loreto, north and south. Most of the upland, sierras have access road problems because the race route often is the only way in and out, so hopefully those will be fixed first.

Thanks......I just talked to my guy on the Sat phone, he says that the coarse from Loreto to the hiway crossing at K6 is impassable. They had to go back to Loreto and come around on the Hiway and start again at K6. From there to the crossing at K128 was no problems.

Chris
I have been told that, as far as the southern section, we will run the same coarse as we did in 98. From San Javier, instead of going west to the coast, we turn south and cross the hiway at K6 (right before Constitucion) then loop to the east thu San Luis Gonzaga and back across the hiway @ k128 (below Santa Rita).
Although this came from a pretty good source, you never know.
Let me know if you have any other info.

Re: Baja 1000 Pre-running Update
Baja Sur has asked that no prerunning occur prior to October 5, because of the condition of access roads and the course itself. They'll be making another announcement this weekend.
