Trans cooler for my Street driven Pre-runner

After installing my Trans temp gauge in the pan, I learned while Pre-Running The Outlaw 250 course this past weekend.
That my E-4OD trans in my Full Sized Bronco with 35" tires & 4:88 gears & 5.8 engine was'nt happy it ran around 240 & thats too hot I dont wanna keep rebuilding my Trans ( E-4ODs are expensive )
While driving on the flat fwys on the way there it ran about 260/70 Until I'd find a hill then close to 200.

While installing the temp sending unit examined fluid & it looked ok.

The fluid was changed after Pre-Running Primm without a gauge.

Just thought I ask you guys what you'd suggest.
I was considering adding this, In addition to my current after market cooler.

I noticed turning off the A/C & opening the windows did'nt help any..
My goal is to Pre-Run anywhere I want with the windows up keeping us clean & cool with The A/C blasting..

I've heard this Name Setrab (doing a search here on RDC) but wonder if they would fit in front of my radiator & behind my grill?

It looks kinda Big.

I've also read about Fluidyne but have no pics or links to their products..

Do you at least have a factory auxiliary cooler in front of the radiator on your truck? That would be a start, although judging by the temps you're listing, you're going to need something larger.

I think the ones that the racers use (probably the Setrab one you have pictured) would be the best. However, I installed two Hayden coolers on my daily driven 93 Bronco with the E4OD. One is the Hayden 679 stacked plate and the other is the Hayden 405 tube and fin, both of which I got from Pep Boys for about $50 each if I remember correctly. But I think you can get them on e-bay for even less.

Stacked plate coolers are supposedly more efficient in dissipating heat than the tube and fin coolers, but a couple of trans techs told me that stacked plate coolers, by design, also tend to restrict fluid flow much more than tube and fin coolers. According to them, proper fluid pressure and flow is almost as critical to the E4OD as is temperature, so they advised against me running two stacked plate coolers for fear that they would restrict flow too much.

I also added an external, inline filter. Not the regular cartridge type, but the kind that Ford recommends in its TSB after installing a rebuilt E4OD. Those same trans techs tell me that the cartridge type restricts flow too much, while the Ford kind doesn't.

So far, the two coolers and Ford filter have worked fine, but then again, I use mine as an occasional daily driver and for the occasional easy trail off-road. Before then, though, the E4OD crapped out on me a few months after I flushed out the old fluid, leaving me to replace it with another one from a salvage yard.

Either way, your best bet would probably be to go with the fancy Setrab one if you can fit it behind the grill.

The biggest thing the more time I spend thinking about it, space is the issue... & those Setrabs seem kinda big & are probably awsome for race trucks that can mount them anywhere...

Just an idea, why don't you mount it behind the skid plate. I was planning on doing this, I was going to cut some holes in the skid plate and mount the cooler as high as the space would allow becouse I wanted the most air flow availible.

I'll start looking at that as an option measuring & all that.
I have my accusump mounted there so we'll see..

I had thought of mounting my engine oil cooler in my front bumper/ skid plate, but after a trip to san felipe i changed my mind. i found small sticks from bushs that had jumped in front on me had gone through my grill and were resting my radiator. bad idea to mount any thing that far forward your better off removing your fender liner and mounting a cooler with a fan there.

To avoid putting something through your cooler just run some mesh or other screen in front of cooler, it has been done for years in all motorsports.
