A Little HELP?

Hello, well I'm planning on buildign my first prerunner and i need a little help...
I plan to build a 2001 Ranger 3.0 5-Speed or similar. I planned on getting a 2-wd, but then some guys confused me by telling me that 4-wd is possible, and good also. Now I think they said on 4-wd you just can't do some things you can with 2-wd or put some parts on that you can with 2. Now I am not sure whether to get a 2-wd or 4-wd? Your opinions and suggestions would be appreciated if you can tell me the pros and cons or whatever you have to add.
