    optima red top battery...dead..reachargeable?

I have 2 optima red top batteries that have died, I have recharged for a short time (one night) they worked OK for that day. I wasn't able to drive the vehicle until 4 days later and they were almost dead...........wouldn't crank it over.

Can these be charged up and good to go again or do they die in time like every other battery?

Red tops die like that. Use yellow tops. They work great for starting and survive deep discharges. I don't even know why they still sell the red tops.

Have you thought of the possibility that there might be something in the vehicle that is discharging the batteries ? I'd recharge the batteries and then disconnect them from the vehicle for a period of a couple of days and then reconnect them and see if the discharge problem still exists. Also, you might want to take the batteries somewhere and have them tested. There are some cool testers that will test not only voltage, but cranking power for a battery. It would be a shame to throw away good batteries only to discover that you have another problem.

I also had a brand new red top go dead on me. I have had the truck sitting for about 4 weeks with the battery isolated went to start the truck and nothing, is this common for red tops? The other red top, my backup, also Isolated, barely cranked the motor.

OPTIMA 800 # will pro-rate replace, they are good about it, think less than 1 yr. is free replacement, they replaced ours. Go to their website for the 800 #, then they send you to autozone to verify if the bat. will not hold charge. We run 1 red for starts and yellow aux. etc.

Do aq search, lots of optima info on RDC. Good luck on replacements. We were stoked.

Make sure to unplug all your accesories that pull a slight bit of power with the key off or you will be chasing your tail, by the above method.

accessories usually dont pull enough volts to lite up a test lite besides your dome lite just shut your door when testing.

    Re: optima red top battery...dead..reachargeable?

I purchased a yellow top for my prerunner since it sits my garage for long periods of not being run. I tried to start it yesterday and the battery was completely dead. The battery is only 2 months old. I thought the yellow tops could last long periods of no use.
