    Fire extinguishers

I cannot stress this enough EVERY TOY NO MATTER WHAT SIZE OR HOW MANY WHEELS NEEDS A FIRE SUSPRESSION DEVICE IN IT. This weekend (12-4) we raced the MORE toys for tots 200. On our lap three we came upon a race car fully engulfed in flames luckily we stopped and handed them our fire extingusher from our car. I didint even think when I handed it to them, but about two mile away I realized we didint have one now(oopps). Talking with the driver after the race He thinks the power steering fluid got on the exhaust which caught fire, which burned the fuel line, which traveled to the fuel cell and burned the entire cab. The driver pulled the fire out system in the car at the first flash and by the time he looked to pull the window nets, they were already melted. They both got out safely but the fire out system only gave them enough time to get out not put the fire out. When we stoped, they were throwing handfulls of dirt and sand to stop the blaze. Our bottle only slowed the fire long enough for five or six extinguishers to show up and put the fire out completely.
Long story short CARRY A FIRE SUSPRESSION DEVICE or risk losing your toy or worse yet your life or the life of someone you love. After what I saw I'm going to put another bottle in the car under the co drivers seat.

Or two, or three, so you can afford to give one away.

    Thanks for the reminder!

Just to hammer home the point that was made to me years ago. On-board Fire Systems are to get you out of the car, not to save the car. As was stated in the other recent thread, you need big extinguishers if you plan to save the car.

    Re: Fire extinguishers

    Tubetech,
Your extingusher was the only one big enough to put put the fire out. Everyone else had the teeny tiny's and only used them when it was obvious that they would do some good.
In this case, size matters, so not only should you carry an extingusher, it should be big enough to be effective.
What a heart breaker to see a brand new class 1 burn to the rollers.
I am glad they were able to get out without injury!
