2002 Toyota Tundra o2 sensor
So my drivers side after cat o2 sensor tripped the CEL. The service advisor said that this o2 sensor only measures to see if the cats are working. They want $388 and change to replace it and do the labor. I said F that and am deciding on putting in a universal o2 sensor from Autozone, I can totally drive the truck with out this sensor but the CEL being on will drive me nuts! The CEL came on while in Mexico for the 1000 and turned off the next day and just came back on Monday. SO I think that it is intermittantly working. My Q is can I just clean the carbon off the o2 sensor and run it that way? A buddy of mine told me this trick and says it worked on his BMW.

Re: 2002 Toyota Tundra o2 sensor
replacing the sensor prolly wont fix it. the code is telling you that the sensor is detecting either a lean or rich condition on bank one. i dont know which because i dont know exactly what code it set. its also possible that the bank one pre-cat is not doing its job.
it is possible that the sensor is bad but unlikely in my experience as a mechanic for a bunch of years.
good luck
oh yeah, sensors from autozone.........not a good idea. IMO

Warranty on 02 sensors for 00-02 Tundra's was extended to 7 years/90,000 miles. If you're within that take it to a dealer.
