after a lot of thought and reading something PCI Scott posted i want to start looking for a mechanical fan for an ls1. everything i have seen has an electric fan. can you attach a fan to the crank pulley on an LS1?

    Re: mechanical fan

Some large trucks have crank mounted fans, but won't that cause a ground clearance problem on a regular car or truck?

It should be doable, with care.

    Re: mechanical fan

Most gm small blocks run a mechanical fan off the water pump with a pulley behind the fan for power steering, alt, ac comp, etc. All belts or serpentine belt run back down to the crank pully. Most of the ones I know of are centered. If they are offset, adjust the fan shroud as needed..
