WORLD SERIES OF OFF-ROAD RACING ANNOUNCES OFFICIAL 2007 SERIES SCHEDULE
CRANDON, WI -- The Lucas Oil World Series of Off-Road Racing (WSORR) announced the official "Tour 2007" Series schedule and it includes an explosive seven-race, 14-rounds of points racing that concludes with a season-ending race weekend at the Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO, on September 22-23.
The WSORR Tour 2007 kicks-off on May 19-20 with Rounds I & II at the Steele County Speedway in Owatonna, MN. Two events are slated for June. Rounds III & IV will be hosted by the I-96 Speedway at Lake Odessa, MI, the weekend of June 9-10. Crandon International Off-Road Raceway in Crandon, WI, hosts Rounds V & VI for the well-known June 23-24 Forest County Potawatomi Brush Run Races. In July, the WSORR show rumbles into Bark River, MI, for Rounds VII & VIII at the U.P. 100 Raceway.
The WSORR returns to Bark River for Rounds IX & X on August 11-12. That event is followed by off-road racing's most hallowed event -- the BorgWarner Off-Road World Championships at Crandon Raceway for Rounds XI & XII, August 31-September 2. The season finale, Rounds XIII & XIV, will be contested at the all-new Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland.
"Thanks to the efforts of Lucas Oil, we've been able to explore the possibility of additional television coverage for 2007," said Doug Davis, general manager, WSORR. "With that in mind, we have set our season-ending event at our title sponsor's race facility in Wheatland. We will finish the season with a big bang at the fabulous 'Diamond of the Dirt Tracks' -- the Lucas Oil Speedway," he said. "We have a tradition in the Midwest of hot and tight point championship racing and WSORR fans will be following these battles right through the checkered flag at Wheatland and in front of a national TV audience," he said. "The table is set for a huge grand finale for WSORR race teams."
Davis said that "every WSORR is a showcase event and none are expected to be more exciting that the inaugural season opener in Southeast Minnesota," he said. "We are excited to be the track to kick-off the historic 2007 WSORR season," said Don Williams, promoter of the opening rounds of the 2007 season at Steele County Speedway in Owatonna. "Our May 19-20 weekend allows us to take advantage of ideal local conditions and we expect to have a capacity crowd on hand for the first-ever national off-road racing event in the area," he said.
Momentum is already beginning to build in Owatonna with local media coverage and a high level of interest and involvement by local groups and fan clubs. "The reaction to this event at Owatonna has been huge and word keeps spreading," said Williams. "Minnesotans love the outdoors and they love trucks and the off-road lifestyle so this market is a perfect fit for the WSORR Tour 2007 opener," he said. Owatonna is located near Rochester, MN, and 55 minutes south of the Twin Cities.
"The focus of the WSORR has always been on expanding this Series -- this exciting, powerful, colorful and thundering form of racing -- and exposing it to as many new fans and sponsors as possible. Owatonna is an excellent first move," added Davis. "Securing more TV time and putting more people in the seats in new venues will benefit WSORR racers and our sponsors with increased exposure. And we aren't done yet. We will continue to investigate strategies and moves to add to our existing plans during the next three years if we believe it will benefit the off-road racing community," he said.
The Lucas Oil World Series of Off-Road Racing has established itself as a nationwide short course racing series with a three-year prime time SPEED Network television package through the 2009 season. In addition to a three-year Lucas Oil title sponsorship, the Forest County Potawatomi Community (FCP) is on-board with the WSORR as presenting sponsor, also for three years.
BorgWarner has also committed to the WSORR and the number one short course off-road race in the country -- the annual BorgWarner Shootout for the prestigious $125,000 BorgWarner Cup -- will be a key event exclusively on the 2007 WSORR Tour. The FCP Chairman's Cup Heavy Metal Challenge Race -- the oldest event of its type in the country -- will also be an exclusive event on the WSORR circuit.
"We are proud of what has been accomplished by the World Series in a very short period of time," said Jamie Devney, motorsports business manager, Lucas Oil Products. "In just five months, the WSORR has been successfully launched, signed a long-term TV deal, signed founding Series sponsors, produced a "Night of Champions" banquet, significantly increased the purse payouts for all racers, and have announced a strong schedule of events in the Midwest," he commented.
"We are pleased to be associated with the WSORR in every respect and are excited the 35+ years of off-road tradition this group represents is moving the sport to new heights. They are a remarkable team and Lucas Oil Products looks forward with great anticipation to hosting the Series grand finale in Wheatland this coming September," concluded Devney.
Headquarted in the Midwest -- the "Mecca" of short course off-road racing in the U.S. -- the WSORR features high performance 4x4 and 2-wheel drive pickup trucks racing in their natural environment -- off-road. Other classes range from stock pickup trucks to exotic, high-flying race buggies.
Fans will be able to watch the finest in off-road racing action live from any of the stops on the WSORR Tour 2007 and enjoy the action again in prime time later in the year on SPEED Network TV.

Not sick in that "extreme" kind of way, its more of a weak stomach thing.

What a great schedule! I can not wait to see the trucks, buggies, 4x4's and cars back on the track. It will be a long, cold winter wait. The people who have pulled this new schedule together are great people. Thanks! Mary Kay

I guess it will be explosive since Corr and wsorr have 2 races scheduled on the same weekend. Guess we will find out pretty early in the season where the Pros will go. Its too bad that this happened, going to be hard for the sport to grow when promoters are fighting over the racers. I see and cart/Irl battle in 07.

I also hate to see the two having races on the same weekend. Life is not always fair. If it was, the split would not have happened to begin with! Mary Kay
