Re: 06 MDR Dash Video ---> Paradigm Productions
I was involved with this from the beginning... I, along with Steve Scaroni, the McMillins and many others, watched the raw footage of what was given to MDR... I watched the video myself a few times and had certain things explained to me... In one section of the video, I saw the 1627 car out on that line marked with "W" arrows with a couple of other cars in the same window... MDR had asked that the video clip they watched on the video camera that captured the images be put to a DVD... That took a little bit of time, as there were limited resources readily available to do this in the middle of the desert, but it did get done and was presented to Patricia... I got to the MDR trailer and was told that they weren't sure about the video, as the camera was removed from their trailer and taken somewhere else to have the DVD burned, insinuating that some "doctoring" could have occurred - which is absolutely preposterous!!! There is a encoded time/date stamp on the tape from the manufacturer - MDR HAD ASKED THEM TO TAKE IT AND GET A DVD BURNED!!
The 1627 car was averaging 42-45 min lap times (same as Andy in a class 1
), so the clip above posted by Paradigm could be showing the car taking the same line a second time, as there are no other cars in that video clip, or it could be before or after the other cars are shown ... this was only a compilation of clips shown, not the entire filming of that area... He was out there for an hour filming in that location from what I understand... Scott is the person who could explain, so this should be left up to him...
Either way, 1627 WAS NOT ON COURSE - period! He also cut the chicanes out every lap in the infield in front of the entire pit row, which should have mandated at least a 5 min penalty... I understand that some could rationalize this as being a "good line" BUT there were 2 "W" arrows (for WRONG WAY) posted there, so that makes this argument a moot point... For whatever reason, MDR decided to make the fatal mistake of not penalizing 1627 for the infield infractions and DQ'ing the driver found off the course, as was stated by them at the driver's meeting... And this would go for anyone else seen doing the same, but MDR wouldn't hear that protest or any others... They then gave the ridiculous excuse for a reason of that no one came and filed the protest when the flag was out - I asked what the flag was and did they state the protest rules at the driver's meeting so everyone knew them... I was told, "No. It's in the rules." I then stated that there were a lot of new racers to MDR and they don't know the rules and it is not posted anywhere on the website, so how would they know what to do... I was again, "It's in the rules. We're not honoring ANY PROTESTS."

I saw the video that was given to MDR it was the raw feed from the camera it shows Belks 12 car go by on the race course then then 1627 going on his own line.
Looks like Scott showed the speed difference between the 2 lines pretty good and the pain the race course caused if you tried to go 4th gear on the course.
One lesson learned get your pen and paper out and force the issue when you want to protest don't let the promoter tell you they don't have time for this kind of stuff.

As stated by many, that line that 1627 ran had "Wrong Way" markers both at the beginning and in the middle of that line. MDR needs to step up and stand behind what they say. If someone cheated they need to be DQ'd, end of story.

There was NO break in the timeline. The CD showed 1 car coming through the course and 1627 taking the other line off course. MDR asked for that particular portion of the video so they could review it again. There was no break in the in timecode on the CD. It was transferred just as it was shot. A few people went back to that spot as well and verified the measurement off course and verified wrong way signs were in fact posted there. Again, this isn't the only instance of taking "creative" lines, going off course or whatever you want to call it. I personally have heard from SEVERAL different people 1627 cut the course in other locations as well as watched him cut the chicane in the infield around the hay bales. MDR should have taken all protests, witness accounts and video into evidence to make a decision. Instead they had an attitude with everyone and made up their own rules. Bad call. Period.

Re: 06 MDR Dash Video ---> Paradigm Productions
There is no doubt in my mind that 1627 was taking faster lines than others in his class, and yes if we marked them with "W" signs and he was blowing right past them and using those line then he doesn't deserve the win.
In the journey of life the idea is not to arrive to your grave safely with a well preserved body, but rather skid in sideways, worn out, screaming, "HOLY $**T-what a ride!"

Re: 06 MDR Dash Video ---> Paradigm Productions
It is sad to see such dishonesty. Steve Eugino (SP?) came up to me before the Superstition 250 and needed a main jet for his car. I gladly gave him the jet he needed to race that race. As most 1600 racers, we are all brothers and will do anything or give anything to help another team. I heard rumors that he cheated in that race as well. Now I believe he will be marked for the rest of his racing career as a "cheater." But, maybe he doesn't care and will do anything to win. Many of us are on nickel and dime budgets and it takes everything to just pay entry and fuel to come out and compete. We need to do something to enforce fairness at the races or why bother coming out.
PS. Steve, I want my 160 main jet back!!!!

with all of this "CHEATER" talk and that word being thrown around so frequently lately..... i think the real "cheater" of the 1600 class and over-all champion (in 2006) brian burgess "needs" to change his name ...... we here at the "d.a.-headquarters" do not affiliate ourselves with "cheaters"..... anymore

Re: 06 MDR Dash Video ---> Paradigm Productions
great video!
but wait? was there any trucks that raced? was hoping you got at least a few shots of all the other entries there...
When a man knows how to live dangerously, he is not afraid to die. When he is not afraid to die, he is, strangely, free to live.
With that mentality though, I guess we could also make 2 TT classes for those guys that just can't keep up with the faster TTs. Oh wait.... This is racing. - Dan Vance
