The "FUTURE" of desert racing
Well ive been involved with desert racing my whole life. I remember back in the day goin to the Fireworks 250 and watching a great race. But over the year ive observed that the very desert racing we all know and love is changing, and most people dont like it. I mean i love the way the bigger and faster cars are emerging but i hate having to pay to be couped up like cows to watch a race from 100 yards away in one place all day. Ive been spending alot of time at MDR races and they are really fun, but you take that chance of getting there and there not even being one trophy truck racing. But at least you can park your trailer and set up a fire or bbq and have a great day with the family. With the laughlin race you pretty much have to pay for a hotel unless your racing and then deal with all the charges just to watch. Plus most of us drive from so-cal. So its getting very expensive, just to spectate. Even worse is that im in the navy and am deploying to the middle east next week, so when i do get to see a race, i lose alot of money. So basically my whole point with this is what do you guys and gals have to say about this. I know we all have somethin to say, remember this is our sport.
If you aim at nothing you will hit it

Re: The "FUTURE" of desert racing
Oooooh................. the good old days. I try to describe to my sons what they missed 10,20,30 years ago. I start to sound like my dad telling me about racing in his day. Watching offroading will always be different today and into the future than in the 80's and 90's. So be gratefull for what we got to share.
For me the answer is help the teams racing both family and friends when I can. Try to teach respect for others and the desert to my sons. And accept the reality a trip to Lucerne or Barstow for a day of racing will not be the "barn burner" it once was.
Not to be a dooms dayer, but I think the days of free spectating offroad racing in the SoCAL area are numbered. 10-15 years?

Bah, I for one will not give thanks to Sal while he spits in the faces of all the people who helped make his organization thrive.

Why do you think its Sal's fault? Do you think Sal likes a 6 mile Laughlin course? Do you think it is his Idea to charge people for watching Laughlin? If so why would he not charge at Primm? All the promotors are having trouble with the BLM issues. I think before you start talking Shi! you need to understand the problems everybody is having.

Re: The "FUTURE" of desert racing
You got my vote Brian! For every decent spectator there are at least 5 knuckle heads at every Calif race. That's why SCORE pulled out, they get paid by the entrants not the spectators so why stick their neck out in a place like Barstow where it's impossible to control access to the course. It's easier to race in Primm or other venues where they can maintain control of the events thus shielding themselves from potential liability and still draw the entries that pay the bills.

I had something to say, Brian.
Look, i've been down this road with Sal before. I won't get detailed, but I have my reasons for saying what I did... plain and simple. Nobody likes the BLM, except people that draw paychecks from them, I understand that. But in terms of the history of racing, and the future of racing, I believe there are better organizations out there.
