What is the best 250r quad?
I am new to the forum and am interested in a 1986-1989 250r. My buddy has one with a 310 kit and has all the gadgets and he only wants 4 grand. Is the 310 kit alright and is it worth the money. Thanks Bryan

Re: What is the best 250r quad?
They are all awesome bikes except for the 87. They tried some supsension changes that didnt work as desired. I prefer the 88 becaseu I like red. The 310 kit is good but someties unreliable. I would try to get one as stock as possible and go from there and do it all yourself, that way you know everything that has been done to it.

The 310 kit was just done supposedly by CT racing in Cali. and is supposed to be nice. Its an 86 and looks very clean, he needs the money for a house and this could help him. Is the 86 alright? Thanks for the help guys. Later on Bryan

Great bike. Just check for signs of abuse...cracks, rewelded joints, etc...

Re: What is the best 250r quad?
Damn your quick. I have heard that the 86s are heavier than the 88s is this true and is there a major difference? Thanks again for the help. Bryan
Also how difficult is it to put the head back on the motor? The guy took it apart for some reason and thats all it really needs to get running, obviously.

Re: What is the best 250r quad?
I have had a 310 kit on my bike for the last 4 years and I have never had a problem with it. I did not have the head milled to keep the compression lower in case I had to
run cheap gas in it. If it has been reasonably maintained, you shouldn't have any problems with it.

Re: What is the best 250r quad?
I'd step away from the bike if he's got it taken apart. Let him put it together and show you it fires on first kick every time. That motor should fire everytime first kick. IF he is not willing to do it then I would not buy it. IT could have bottom end damage or who knows. I would seriously not by a bike that i did not do a few hot laps on up and down the street. YO ucan feel and hear everything when those fire. Listen for pings or knocks and fell for vibration when riding and on and on and on ...

Re: What is the best 250r quad?
I am thinking about it anyways. He said that it has been ran. He is my boy and all, but I am not sure I want another project, I am one of those JeepSpeed dorks that are trying to finish that project as well, dont need another partial. Another friend has an 88 with a mostly stock 250 and has res. front shocks and wants about the same money but it is already to ride and runs well, I rode it a couple weeks ago. Thanks again Bryan
