February 17th, 2007 16:48 #1 What'd you think of ESPN's first race?
I thought they did a great job mostly because their commentators aren't redneck yahoos. It was way better than TNT/NBC and I'd even rate it higher than Fox. They did spend too much time on JPM but they also gave kudos to Robby which no other network does. I respect any network that respects Robby.
ps. I noticed that Mike Joy must have been set straight the other day because he said the Dakar was a 15 day desert race. 15 stages and a rest day but he's close enough.

Im sorry but I couldn't disagree more. I couldn't stand their coverage, seemed like amateur hour to me. I really hope they aren't doing the entire season.

Really? I actually enjoyed hearing some new voices. God bless Benny Parsons, but if I had to hear his explanation of a track bar adjustment one more time with the generic Home Depot Chevy visual, I was going to puke. Bill Webber comes of as a pompus arrogant sob, and Wally, well he is OK, not only that, but they caused RG a win at the Glen in 2001 with the exploding camera battery. As far as DW, he can take his boogity boogity boogity right over to MWR and put it in his fuel system. I think that Larry Mac with Rusty and Jerry Punch would be the dream team IMO

I enjoyed it ESPN has BUSCH all year and I thought they gave it a CUP race treatment. Of course the HD is a big plus I may be spoiled but I rarley watched a full BUSCH race last year on FX or TNT. I thought Jerry Punch did a good job and Rusty was ok as well. I did notice Mike Joy getting his facts straight on DAKAR.

I liked the commentators, but the thing I didnt like was the graphics were too small....anyone else feel the same way?

I thought it was good...and remember it was the first one. I'm sure feedback from viewers will create a better broadcast throughout the season.
I thought talking to cousin carl during the yellows was pretty cool, the conversation between he and rusty was cool there during the late caution.
Overall i think it was good right now...but i see it great my the end of the season. I bet Busch is regretting not re-signing this series it is going to go through the roof thanks to ESPN and the caliber of drivers coming up the next few years.

Robby sure got alot more coverage on Sat than Sun. Even when he nearly got collected by Jr. and the 88 at the end not a mention of his name.
