Radiator Mounting ?'s.

Mounting a Ron Davis Radiator in the 7 open truck.

My co-dawg swears up and down not to mount the bottom of the radiator it a fabricated tray, using a fabricated top piece to sandwich the radiator in place. I know this setup is commonly used. Any issues withh this type of mounting or tips?

He want to tig on mounts to the tanks and run a tab and bushing mounting setup.

I vote tab and bushing. It needs some give. EVERYTHING flexes to some extent and Ive seen ALOT of aluminum radiators and fuel cells crack due to flex.

I agree with desertdude. Cracked radiators suck.

Bushings are good, just make sure the mounts welded on the radiator have a lot of surface area or they will rip off.

Every trophy truck and class 1 and class 10 car that I know of use the sandwich. Pro trucks do the same. They usually put a strip of rubber between the rad. and the plates. Top and Bottom. I have done all of my cars this way and have not have anyone come back with a split tank.

Every radiator that I have ever put in to our race trucks or pre-runners have been the "sandwich" style. Solid mount the whole thing and use 1/8 foam rubber in the trays and you will be fine. If you Tabbed it and mounted it with bushings you have to consider when that thing is full of water it is a now a large load on those aluminum mounts bouncing around.
