It is with deep sadness that I relay a message from my friend Bob Gordon that Mike Thomas passed away last night.
On behalf of everyone here at Dirt Sports / Advanstar's Off-Road Group, we want to pass along our heartfelt sympathy to everyone in the Thomas family. Last year, Todd Clement and I had the chance to honor Mike at the Horsepower Ranch Baja Legacy Party. Perhaps nobody did more for the sport in the 1980's and 1990s than Mike, who brought us all the fun of watching guys like Bob Gordon and Mark McMillin dominate races - most of the time for overall wins.
Not only that, we was an influence to several gererations of off-road fabricators, racers and enthusiasts.

As I sit here with tears in my eyes, The Off Road Community has lost One of it's Best. Mike was my first Boss, and got me started in the off road world back in 1978. He was an awesome guy to work for, taught me a lot about business & life, and for that, I have... and will be, always greatful. I still have his letter of "recomendation" in my mementoes. For those of you to young to remember the "Dominant" days of Chenowth in the desert...Respect for this elder has been "Earned".
