    class 5-1600 or 1/2 1600?

    I have a 1965 bug body with a one piece fiberglass front end and rear fenderds also seats and belts and some other little things. Now heres my question how much more expensive is a 1600 car rather then a 5/16 to build considering i have this body? People always talk about starting out with 5/16 and i wonder why? I like the wheelbase of the 1600 cars which is what makes me want to build that but if its way more expensive to build id like to go with the 5/16. This is my first race car and i will be building it on my own so if anybody can give me any input building it would be greatly appreciated also taking donations of parts too. thanks everybody i cant wait to be racing.

    Build a 1/2 1600 car it will cheaper and faster in the long run. All the parts are the same on both classes having the body is a very small part of building a car as you will find out when you start to build a car.

    My vote is build a 5-16 car. If you dont already have a frame you'll need to build or buy one. At least ten grand to buy. Then you need all the parts, roughly twenty grand to buy new. Your at thirty grand and have'nt even bought all the safety stuff (fuel cell, nets, race suit, helmet, intercom,radio,blah,blah,blah) .
    With a 5-16 car your pretty much half way there. Its a little tricky at times but if you can weld and bend tube and fabricate you can save quite a bit of money to buy all the other things.
    On the racing end of it, 1-2/1600 class is getting real competitive right now, at least at MORE, and if you've never raced before you will get banged and beat up by the vets. Thats not to say you wont get banged in a 5-16 car, but you wont have twenty or more cars in the same class trying to be in the same place your are.
    If your still serious about it pm me and give you whatever advice I can.

    Its true wicked creations build top notch cars. If you got the money look them up. I've checked their work and their fab at the off road expo and would'nt think twice about using their stuff. If I was'nt such a cheap b***ard I would run their parts instead of making my own.
