The new Nikon D40x gives you a lot of bang for the buck for an entry level SLR.

I dont know your budget but it would be a good setup with an 18-135 nikkor lens.

The new canon rebel is nice and priced well and with a 28-135 IS canon lens it will shoot anything she wants. I use a 10D with that lens and have no complaints.

    Re: calling all photo/camera guys

My wife has a Canon Pro Shot Pro-1 and absolutely loves it. I thought it would be too much camera for it but the difference in photo quality compared to what the other moms have is night and day and they all notice. If I had to replace it today I'd get one of the Rebel models.

I would have to say the best DSLR would be the CANON 30D w/ 17 to 85 mm @ 4/5.6 IS USM lens it is the perfect everyday set up, perfect for sports portraits and every thigs else. i have one myself and i love it. i make a living as a photographer and it is one of my best cameras i have ever owned. and plus Canon is so flexible and easy to use.

Also may i recommend you buy any camera equipment for Calumet Photographic. dont, what ever you do go to Ritz or best buy or any where else.

    Re: calling all photo/camera guys

Ollie, My mother in-law just got a Rebel XTI, the one with the lens for about $800. Now my wife keeps telling me to get one... They are really nice for the money. Klaus and I used it on the Herbst shop feature.

    Re: calling all photo/camera guys

There was a pretty good package at Costco that had the Nikon D80 (I think), lenses, bag, flash, memory card, etc. It was reasonably priced. And you get the return policy if anything happens.
