Re: Baja Races and Tourist Cards
We want them to be legal here, we should do the same there.

Re: Baja Races and Tourist Cards
For last years 1000, we just filled out the papers at the Sur/Norte crossing. They gave us our copies and told us that if we were there more than 7 days, we needed to go to La Paz and pay the $20. Under 7 days they said to just hold on to our copies for the trip back through, but no need to pay.

They checked ours at Guerro Negro last year during the 1000. Plus they sprayed our truck for pests, for a fee of course.

OK, so my input is: Be prepaired and leave nothing to chance. There are a lot of people who DNF due to poor planning and prep. I always take are of all of the little stuff like the tourist cards and I have YET to have any problems. That way I can focus on the race and getting home alive. About 3/4 of the time you are not checked. However, its the stupid little stuff that starts compounding, eventually adding up to something that bites you.

I think you can get them at your local consulate, or right as you cross the border on the Mexico side.
They could have gotten them in Bay of LA, San Quintin, Ensenada and Tijuana to name a few place north, and La Paz, Loreto and Santa Rosalia in the south as well as other places I'm sure. They are free if you are staying 7 days or less. I quit paying for them several years ago as the money is just going in the officials pocket. Find out the rules and you won't get screwed. Mexican Consulate in San Diego gave me all the details a few years ago. I'll look it up again and share it here later.

"Plus they sprayed our truck for pests, for a fee of course."---Funny thing....as they "sprayed for pests" the guy doing the spraying wasnt wearing a respirator or gloves...
Oh yeah and as far as the passport thing....not needed to re-enter the U.S. as long as you are crossing by car or foot....If you get hurt and need to be flown in there are No gaurantees....I think that SCORE has it posted on their web site, regarding the visa's- better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it-whats 20 bucks and some of your time when it could potentially cost you a whole lot of both!

Re: Baja Races and Tourist Cards
Get your tourist card and help speed the line up at the checkpoint. It takes up manpower at that checkpoint when you have to pull over and have the immigration officer get the paperwork for you to fill out.
