    KTM 640 or 950 adventure

I am going to purchase a new KTM 640 Adventure but I was wondering if anyone had any knowledge of both the 640 or 950. Am I making a good move going with the 640?

It seems the 640 is set up more like a dirt bike and is similar to the XR 650. I plan on riding it to work and Mex trips with the occasional ride to the mountains.

    Any info is appreciated..

Here's a website, www.advrider.com, there are alot of KTM guys on there. They can steer ya in the right direction.

I ran into a good group of these guys down at Mikes about a year ago, and man, talk about riding a BIG bike, it was like driving a car through one of those rivers.

    good luck.

you can try mine if you like,a little vibby but you can get a new seat to fix the numbness. Its a little weird not seeing the front wheel.I ride a kx-500 also, so its not like i'm not used to the vibes or the weight.............Steve

Hey now, My KX500 isn't nearly that heavy. But locktite is still it's best friend....

Went riding with a couple of KTM ADVrider guys a while back. "Inte" has the 950 and rides the wheels off of it. Took the back way out of Mikes through all the tech stuff and never missed a beat. "Dustjunkie" has a 625 which worked well also, just a little more vibration.

If you really want the scoop on both bikes, Inte would be the one to PM over there. He has both bikes and used to work for KTM.

Re: KTM 640 or 950 adventure

I've put over 10K miles on both a 640Adv & a 950. On the highway, in the dirt so PM me and I'll give you all the details. Yes, ADVRider.com is the best place and do a search in Orange Crush or Thumpers. Plenty of 640/950 banter in there as many have asked the same question.

Biggest one is how much highway to how much technical dirt do you really want to do?
What are you willing to give up on the highway for drastically better dirt abilities? How much does an extra 80-100 pounds mean to you? Also, not to get your going here but there's a new LC4 motor coming out the 690 that's counter-ballanced and should be available next year...eliminating all the vibration issues. Best part about the 640 is the bullet connector under the seat you can to retard ignition so the Pemex does not make it knock!
