lets debate-car of the future..yeah or nah

i know everyone just got done bitching about this but its still on my mind. whts everyones thoughts on the car of tomorrow in nascar? past that, the effects it may have on all competitive motorsports regaurding uniformity amongst hardware, competition as far as the driver alone, etc. i personally hold true to the fact that one of the best parts of any race is the fab and engineering that goes into the chassis. by taking that away, why not give every driver a friggen go kart and say have fun! besides, who will design the new improvements down the line if the guys concerned with chassis design and fab no longer have a significant role in the nascar world, and what will they turn to? any thoughts on some choice improvements comin the dirt regions way? lets toss some chum on this one...gimme yer thoughts.

First, the engineering aspect is still in play as is evident by Hendricks leading races-just as they were with the old car. The major thing taken from the teams has been any aero advantage and budget but teams will get that tuned more than it is now. The cars are safer and that to me is enough. And the whole "stock car" argument is stupid. I like Cart and Irl too, and Top Fuel and none look like anything I would be driving to work...same goes for Trophy Truck or class 1, as much as I would like to be taking the kids to school in the Hebst truggy, it ain't gonna happen but it doesn't lessen my enthusiasm for motorsports. A race fan is a race fan...

You mean the "Sports car of tomorrow"
I like it- brings out the true racers- the ones who don't ***** about every little thing. The guys that are just happy to be racing anything- and can adjust to anything.
Why not have them race nicely painted late-models?

They just need to ditch the splitter and have a full nose again. They can have a common nose, but at least it will work decent on the 1.5+ mile tracks.

This is my thinking. If any of the drivers in Cup don't like it and can't adapt to the new car then step aside and let a real race car driver in the seat. The crying about it is to hard to drive has to stop!

Re: lets debate-car of the future..yeah or nah

HAAS just spent something like $30 million on a wind tunnel.

If aerodynamics is thrown out the window with the standardized body, what is the main advantage of spending that kind of money on a wind tunnel? Cooling?

I think the new car is 2 steps forward, and 1 step back. Safety and design top notch, but it's becoming harder and harder for most teams to adapt; especially the switching between cars, that means twice as many to get ready at all times and it's putting a wear on crew chiefs, mechanics, etc.

Re: lets debate-car of the future..yeah or nah

Kyle Petty said recently that the larger, more successful teams will have better performance with the car initially, courtesy of more testing, the same advantages that the big teams already have. He said for the majority of the 1 and 2 car teams, it will take about 12 to 18 months to get up to speed. After that, we will see much more competition out of the smaller teams, they just need the testing time to get up to speed. A 4 car team has 4 times the testing time a 1 car team has, so they naturally have an advantage. As far as the wind tunnel thing, their is not alot of room for aero changes, the new template pretty much handled that. That does not mean that teams will not still try. I think we will se alot of teams placing the majority of their resources into R&D for chasis/suspension set up/geometry, etc. I think we will see a lot more 7 post shakers being purchased in the future to help with chassis set ups, as wind tunnels are used less and less and more funds are freed up. With the Fords, they seem a little behind the 8 ball. I would not be suprised to seem them some how pool their resources between Roush, RGM, Yates and the Wood Brothers, using Ford Motorsports as an intermediary.

Re: lets debate-car of the future..yeah or nah

I like saftey aspects of the car . It is def a safer car with the driver placed further from the door bars, and eventually the car will bring the budgets down by not needing a 30 car stable because of the difference in aero setups w the bodies for the different tracks. I dont like the splitter, to try and get downforce the nose needs to travel all the way down to the track, if the setup is to soft the splitter will hit unloading the front end. The rear wing is up in the air to help from unloading the rear spoiler when air is packed up behind the car, it looks so stupid though, looks like a pepboys special import wing. I guess overall the car looks pretty gay. Eventually i'll get used to it
