TDI Class 5 or other VW Classes?
Anybody know if any SCORE, BITD, MDR, other..., sanctioning bodies would allow a VW TDI engine in any class? I'm thinking BioDiesel
Thanks.

Most VW classes require an air-cooled, four cylinder, pushrod type engine. But that's a great idea.

Per the SCORE rulebook Class 5 can run any VW 4 cylinder air or water cooled engine. It would be interesting to see a TDI Class 5. It also appears you could run one in Class 10 if it was within the displacement restictions.
I've thought along these lines too. It seems that many others are starting to think about TD's too. I wonder how long it will be before there is a rule change in alot of classes to allow for the diesels.

You are not going to be able to run that Turbo and without one the TDI would be a dog.
P.s. I love my 2001 Jetta TDI!

Re: TDI Class 5 or other VW Classes?
Was there a time when turbo's weren't allowed in the Stock Full Classes? Maybe sometime there will be exceptions to the turbo/supercharger restrictions in other classes if running diesel. Anyone have SCORE's ear on this? It looks to me like MDR and MORE would allow turbo's (diesel or not) in their 1400/1450 class.
I think I may be able to get some pretty unexpected sponsors from the Northwest if I used biodiesel. I thought the VW classes would be the cheapest to start out in.

An easy way to find out is to call SCORE and ask.

Re: TDI Class 5 or other VW Classes?
There are loopholes in the rules that could let diesels into just about any class. In the general rules, it states that gasoline and diesel are acceptable fuels. It also states that turbos can be run on diesel engines if they were factory installed. In the class rules, there is NOTHING that states engines must be gasoline powered. So, why couldn't you take a TDI and drop it into a chassis and run it? There is nothing in the rules that says you can't...
