Unfair Format at Terrible's Cup
So for those that are unaware here is the way the races/starting order will take place at Terrible's Cup III this year:
Everyones position is drawn at random (duh)
--Day 1--
Race 1: Racers start in order they were randomly given
Race 2: Start in the position that you finished race 1 in and receive points for whatever place you finish by the end of this race.
--Day 2--
EXACTLY the same as day one. No flipping the starting positions, no starting according to how you finished day 2...nothing. If you draw a last place position, you will start back of the pack both days. If you draw a first place position, you will start front of the pack both days.
Now I know everyone starts at the same time, but does anyone else see a big disadvantage for the back people and a HUGE one for the front starters? All the front starters have to do is hold everyone off for 5 laps or whatever it is...and VOILA! Point advantages up the wazoo.
So say someone starts at the back and works his way up the pack, passing 6 cars by the end of race 1...more then anyone else in the race. Race 2 he starts 6th (12 cars total)...he now has to pass another 6 cars to make it to the front, including whoever is in 1st. Ok so bad draw right? Deal with the hand you're given right? But wouldn't it make sense to flip starting order for Day 2? It's simple...it's easy...it takes virtually no work...and it makes all the sense in the world! WHY NOT!?
Maybe no one else noticed this, maybe no one cares...or maybe people actually agree with this format...but I think it sucks...am I the only one?

Random draw for first race only as told to me by Paul Fish. Each race there after points decide your start postion. This is for sure true in all classes other than TT.
I am not sure if you are speaking of TT and there is something written that is different than the other classes.

Re: Unfair Format at Terrible's Cup
The explanation was a little confusing but the jist is that if you start up front due to random drawing and can stay up front, you will get low points. That means you start up front next race. Finish up front, you get more low points and start up front for third race. Etc. So the point is that starting at rear, unless you kick some serious butt and break into top finishing positon in 5 or 6 laps, you get a pile of points. That pile of points will keep you from starting up front for the third race even if you push your way to the front on the second race. For such a short race, I would agree that an inverted start for Day 2 really makes sense. Heck, everyone used to fight for an inverted start at Laughlin for the same reasons and there was about 10 times the mileage to make up ground.

Interesting this thread has 3 replies while the HMS testing video thread has 80...not baggin on HMS...just the direction people aim there interests in. Anywho:
PAB: So are you saying the only race the random draw matters in is the first race on the first day? Because last I saw it was the first race on both days...so regardless of the finishing position on day 1, on day 2 you'd still start in the same place that you drew. I really do hope I'm wrong because that's pretty jacked...

I just got our paper work and it says that racers start in the order they were given for both days.
In this case its good for us. we start out in the best spot both days in class 7

Ya so you got lucky...there's plenty others who don't also get that luxury. It's just unfair is all I'm saying...

Re: Unfair Format at Terrible's Cup
Score is making it so the better you do the better you start the next race. That stops all sandbagging if it was inverted. Plus every race matters so you have to drive fast each race. How is that unfair? Its only unfair if you don't plan on winning.
The way I read the rules day 2 you start how you finished day1

Also every race has its own points for it so even if you win the main race and get the money you may not have the most points at the end.

Re: Unfair Format at Terrible's Cup
Random draw was for heat one ONLY per Paul and Sal.
All other races are based on total low points. 1st gets 1 point 2nd gets 2 and so on.
