Why is my carb dumping fuel?
I've tried everything that I could think of and my carb is still overflowing. Its not just a little drip but every opening on the carb is gushing with fuel. The floats aren't sticky (I've cleaned then really well), The inside of the carb is clean. It didn't always do this. It started to drip bad on day when I was running the bike and I took the carb apart to find the problem. I found that the main jet had fallen out. I think it just wasn't in tight enough. Now I've pretty much hit a wall. The only thing I can think is that I'm running a fuel filter now. Its not a motorcycle fuel filter but a VW one because That is what I had lying around. Maybe that alows more fuel to get in the carb??? I dont know. I want to fix it myself than take it to a shop and pay alot for a easy fix. Is there something easy that I missed? Any help much appreciated, Thanks.

Re: Why is my carb dumping fuel?
Funny you should post this. I had the exact same problem on my 650 this morning. Fuel was running out but the float wasn't stuck, carb was clean etc. I hit the carb with a cresent wrench and snapped the throttle a bunch and it works now??? Sorry, I wish I could help but I could use an answer too.

Re: Why is my carb dumping fuel?
The float needle is stuck or you somehow re-adjusted your float level too high. Take the the float bowl off and manually push the float/float needle with you finger to effect the shut off. Double check you float position at shut off. The fuel filter has no cause or effect on your carb overflowing.

Re: Why is my carb dumping fuel?
on the fcr carbs there is a screen under the needle and sometimes gunk or dirt can get stuck in there and cause the needle not to close all the way. but chase2 is right it is either your float level or the needle is sticking on something.

Re: Why is my carb dumping fuel?
Thanks so much guys. I fixed it. It was just a float level adjustment. Now I'm stripping my bike to the frame to clean it, prime it, and paint it. Thanks.

Float needle is stuck.
Probably need a new one.
Try the old- crescent wrench upside the carb bowl- couple of whacks. That may wake it up and loosen it.
If you need to replace- the needle is the small shaft/pin that the float pushes on when it rises in the bowl. Simple fix.
