Can you rebuild a Ford alternator (02 V-10)in the field? What should I carry?

Better yet ditch the Ford all together and get a real truck
I've replaced bearings in a motor homes alternator before, stupid thing was like $500 so we chose the "economical" way out and it only cost us about $5. We were 5 miles from home after a long weekend at the river when it siezed up. I cut the belt and drove it home, could never do that with a serpantine belt........
If it's not charging thats a whole new ball of wax.
