Chris Blais has broken his back!!
This was posted on the D-37 message board by Chris' dad at around 5pm today:
Chris fractured his back, 7th vertebra (the 7th cervical vertibra -neck/shoulders) earlier today in Reno. He was pre-running the Vegas to Reno course.
He is going into surgery in 2 hours and to have it fused. Patty is with him!
Please say a prayer for him. This is very scary, and we are so far away.
He is at the Renoun Hospital in Reno, NV
I know everyone here shares with me in wishing Chris a speedy recovery.

Re: Chris Blais has broken his back!!
My grandmother just had vertebrae fused and is doing very well, she has no pain from it and is able to stay very active. Best wishes for a speedy recovery Chris!

Hope the best for Chris, and when this situation is a bit more clear I think that medical rescue has to be discussed a bit (I'm only going off of what my good friend told me about the situation).
Alright, I'll drive it...

Re: Chris Blais has broken his back!!
I just spoke with Kreg (Donahoe) he was the 1st 4wheel on the scene and the only one with a radio. He stayed with Chris and his friends, which included Henge, for about 2 hours. BITD got a helicopter in and flew him and Patty out and will be in contact with the hospital and Chris' family. There are some very serious issues with his back. So everyone say a prayer for Chris. This is a very serious injury. Kreg said he didn't know what happened but said Chris slipped or something. The surgery is supposed to last 5 hours so it will be late tonight before we hear anything.

This sucks... He did USA proud last year. Maybe a roll cage has his name on it if he doesn't fully recover.

Yes they are. The nicest people. I am stunned to hear this news and am speachless. While we all know these things can happen, it really hits home when its someone you know and consider a friend. Chris and Patty, all of our collective prayers are with you and Chris for a succesful surgery and quick healing. You know we are thinking of you guys.
