    Score legal cab cage.

So I am getting ready to redo my cage for a 92 4x4 toyota, standard cab.
My question is, and I already looked through all the threads with the search button, does the single piece hoop have to go from frame to frame. In other words, the way I am wanting to do my truck, is one piece of tubing from the a pillar, past the b pillar, and stub out the top of the cab (to do the rear later) then sleeve the down bar. Will it be "Score" legal this way or does that piece of tubing have to go all the way back down to the frame?
The pics included are basically what I want to do, but am trying to keep it "score legal" at the same time.
    Thanks for the help.

Sleaving is legal. Do it right, plug weld etc. I have a truck that is sleaved @ A pillar and stubbed out back and it passed with 0 problems.

    Re: Score legal cab cage.

From my interpertation of the SCORE rules...no problem with the rear downbars being sleeved. The rear down-bars are part of the "primay-cage" and must be an appropriate dia/wall for the weight of the vehice. you don't have a problem here as it is a continuation of your side hoop.

From what I can tell, the only parts of the cage that may not be sleeved/butt-welded per SCORE rules are the the rear/main hoop, the front or or side hoop(s)...and this really only applies above the elbow bar. For instance...a person can sleeve the the main hoop down near the floor..to run a small curved tube to the reinforced frame-rail.

As always...a call to Mr Savage at SCORE is not a bad idea.

I thought some-more....I do see one issue with this....you don't have a primary/main one piece hoop within 24" of the drivers head(SCORE Rule). If you use one piece for your side hoop...following up the a pillar..past the b-pillar....then out the back, then your rear hoop is not legal as a "main-hoop" The cage must contain a primary/rear hoop...one piece(above the elbow-height) from the driver side to the pass side...and a one piece side hoop like you have already.

If I'm correct...all you have to change is have a one piece hoop in the back of the cab, and terminate the side hoops where they intersect the rear hoop....Then weld a stub off the back of the rear hoop to later attach the down-tubes. Of course at the intersection of any tubes, the tube centerlines must all line-up...to avoid shearing tubes.

    Any one else agree?

    Re: Score legal cab cage.

See, that is where I am not sure, the second picture is exactly what I want to do. But how you interpret the rules, how I interpret the rules and how Savage interprets the rules could all be diffrent. I cant find my score book to quote so I need to get another, but since the continuous side hoop is one peice all the way out past the cab cage, does that constitute "legal" per the rules?
I know this has been beaten to death a hundred times but would appreciate any feed back.
    Thanks again for the help.

    Re: Score legal cab cage.

The 2nd one is how my truck is, actually has a sleave at A pillar as well to keep the cab cage tight. 100% legal and the SCORE Tech official had nothing but good things to say about the cage.

    Re: Score legal cab cage.

I don't see a problm with either case, especially when you consider the required gussets. I made my brother's cage like picture A.

Looks like a call to Mr Savage is in order....wonder how many times he has been asked this question

You would think SCORE would have released a bulletin on this specific issue...with several pictures of legal and illegal cages.

Let us know what you hear?

If SCORE did release a picture of what they want and someone was hurt in it, there would be a lawsuit where they would not win! That is why they don't...Just my opinion!

Brian, hurry up and call Savage, because I already have one tube bent like figure B, but no sleeves anywhere in it. Whatever you find out post up so others will know. Also, bring that 2wd transmission by this weekend.
