I don't know if anyone makes a living out of racing THESE events, I know I sure as hell can't. For me desert racing is like a hole in the desert into which I just keep throwing money.
As far as becoming a good racer, I can't really say wether I'm a good racer but I know that in Off Road racing, you must first finish to finish first. Good car prep, don't abuse the machine, drive within the limitations of the machine AND the driver. Consistancy is a good thing and usually, smoother is faster (stole the last one from somebody on this forum
)
One thing is for sure, It's HELLA FUN and I am hopelessly ADDICTED.

There are a handfull of people that get paid to drive for teams. By your spelling it looks like you graduated from Basic High School. And i'm not a good racer all I do is wreck my car

Re: does any1 make a living?
There are alot of people that make a living in "the industry." Not many that actually make a true living "racing" however. Depending on how specific, the top drivers in short course (Greaves, Douglas, Vandenhuevel, etc.) make a living racing, but they also supplement thier income building race vehicles for others. The same holds true in desert, but most desert racers do it for the love of the challenging desert terrain and competition. Most of the top teams are succesful in other businesses (non off road related, Herbst, McMillin, Baldwin, etc,) so they can afford to do what they love.
If you want to make a living as a driver, you have to become the very best so that top teams will want to hire you. Roeseller, MaCacheren, and Douglas have all started at the bottom and worked thier way up as some of the best drivers, therefore making a living out of driving.
My best advice is get a job in the industry, save your money and start racing if that is what you want to do, if you work hard, you can make a living working and racing, but typically you will be working to go racing. That is what I do.
