D-37 races????
I had a couple of questions for guys with experience riding d-37 races.
What kind of skill level is there at most races? How technical are the courses? Are there different classes for 2-stroke and 4 stroke, How do they break down?
I ask because I am interested in competing on a bike since I can't afford to race my truck at the moment. I am not a brand new rider but I have no experience racing on a bike and I would hate to show up and be in way over my head and cause problems.
Any input would be great.
Thanx

The D-37 site is here:district37ama.org/home

D-37 used to have a 4-Stroke Class but it went away a couple of years ago.
Classes are by simple displacement with none of that 450 thumpers race in the 250 cr@p.
There are more age ranges than anything with Beginner, Novice, Intermediate, and Expert levels in each age and displacement class.
As far as skill goes there is everything from top name pros to first time beginners at every race. Nationals attract more pros and are much more technical.
If you aren't going to Primm, I would suggest the Lost Coyote's Dual European Scrambles that weekend up in Red Mountain. With a Dual European you get to race on both Sat & Sun if you want. European Scrambles also tend to be less technical than say a Hare & Hounds.

Re: D-37 races????
the skill level is very open if you are a newbie there is a place for you if you are fast there is a place for you. i race D 38 in the El Centro area and D 37 as well. i have found that D 37 is a little bit more technical than D 38 which i generally pretty fast. dont worry about finding yourself being over welmed either. just start in the novice class so you can run all the of the laps and dont let the faster riders push you to go at a unsafe speed and you will be alright. all you need is a AMA membership and if you are planning on doing a lot of races become a District member and save a little $$$ on the entry fee. also make sure your bike meets noise limits and have a spark arrestor. happy racing!!!

Re: D-37 races????
There is defininately a place for you in D-37. You can "Pie Plate" the first race if you want to get your feet wet. As said before, you will need an AMA card to race. Just go to the AMA site and join and they will allow a printable temporary card you can bring to the race until your card comes in the mail.
The D-37 desert races are a pretty good mix of technical and fast stuff. Try the dual Euro Scrambles first, they are fun. There is also the GP's which are really fun. Basically a lap in the MX track and out into the desert for a 6-8 mile loop then back into the MX track, usually 4-5 laps. Next GP isnt until October.

Re: D-37 races????
You will also need a D37 card unless its a national which I dont recommend doing as a first race. A beginner D37 racers and a beginner to riding are none in the same. A beginner in D37 means you are a compotent rider, have good equipment and can pretty much ride good and fix something on the trail if it breaks. You wear full gear including a chest protector and camel back as well as a fanny pack.
D37 is a blast, good luck. Your first race will set you back 100 bucks in fees but after that its 30-40/per race.

It sounds like great time and I look forward to making some races. I am not sure the first one I will make but it should be pretty soon. I need some time to prep my bike.
Thanx all for the feedback!!!!

Re: D-37 races????
I'm planning on starting in '08 so that I can pay all the registration fees and get a whole season to race, not just a few months.
