    School me on BFGs

Just picked up a bunch of 15" wheels and now I'm looking for tires, there's a few sets of BFG Baja T/As in the classifieds here and on a few other sites at really good prices. I'm looking at the 33x12.5x15s withe the tread pattern that looks almost like the regular MTR. What I'm wondering is what the tread compound on them is like and what the sidewall strength is like. My truck is a DD so I want a tire that will last a decent number of miles, I have 35k on my current BFG MTRs so if they're a similar tread compound they should be fine, but I don't think a soft compound would last long enough to make them worth my while. Also because my truck is a dual purpose truck I do a decent bit of trail-running with some minor rock-crawling so I need a thick sidewall, if the casing is the same as the MTRs they'll be fine, but I just want to double check.

Also aside from buying them used, how would I get more, can I just order them from a BFG dealer? Do I need to get them from a race team? Do I need to sell a kidney and sacrafice a chicken to get them?

Thanks ahead of time for any imput.

BFG does not make the MTR, Goodyear does. I assume you have the Mud Terrains which are a Steelbelted Radial tire. The Baja T/A is a Bias Belted tire with a much tougher construction and harder compound.

Yep Mud Terrains, not MTRs I guess. Sounds like they'll work then if they have a harder compound. Looks like I'm getting some Bajas. Thanks.

They are going to ride rougher, be a little louder and harder on your drivetrain. But they are a great off road race tire.

    Re: School me on BFGs

The rough ride I can handle, I just now got around to getting my tires re-balanced and the "best" one took a mere 12oz. of weight. They're going on a Land Rover wich makes so many noises that I doubt I'll even notice the tires. It's that great offroad race tire that I'm after, just glad they aren't a soft compound tire.

Where would I find new ones though? That's the one last little hang-up I have, if I destroy 1, I want to be able to replace it in a hurry, I could luck out and find another used one, but I want to make sure I can get one new if I have to before going to the desert again.

A good tire shop should be able to order them. In Vegas Ted Weins orders them for me.
