Chase Driving Training for Baja
After a day of ringing out a fairly new CRF2-FittyX at SuperLift's Off Road Park in Hot Springs Arkansas, on the way home it hit me. If you want to train for chase crew driving duty in Baja without ever going south of the border, come drive the rural highways of Arkansas!! It was every bit as crazy, winding, nervewracking and frustrating as the run from Ensenada to San Felipe last year! It did however evoke some pleasant memories after a fun day.

Best chase driver training in the world. Move to San Clemente and retire. Spend most of your time trying to keep up with Pab all over the place. You will spend more time in Baja driving big trucks pulling wide trailers on narrow roads with suicidal big rig drivers than you ever thought possible. Nothing like being at full speed (45mph) on a blind curve while a big rig passes you so close that you can touch his trailer. Your mind is screaming ABORT, ABORT! while your foot tries to gently apply the brake without over reacting and going into a full four wheel drift with a 200K TT happily resting on the trailer behind you. All the while the guy in the chase truck behind you is screaming into the radio to LOOK OUT!......all you can think is I WANT MY MOMMY! shut up, and What the heck is this guy thinking? all at once.
I can't wait for the MIL!
PS...Be sure to get your Mex-insurance.

Nimrod, last Mil there was at least 4 driver-side mirrors broken on our super-dutys from contact with the other way traffic, this is just the DA chase-return crew. I personally had mine done just on the way home from La Paz and did not even stop.
Oh ya, that head on just after Loreto was right in front of me, saw it happening and could not stop it. I was on the radio with 5 sec. to help. Take notes, don't ever let your guard down; luckly no one was hurt, but spent another day getting our vehical out of impound...

I have no idea how we missed certain death twice on the return from the Rip to the Tip trip.........
My favorite was after we got up at 5:00 AM. to get an early start. We found the 1 was completely shut down in both directions in the middle of nowhere just south of La Paz. The road was totally torn up by construction. We just sat in the heat for 3 hours, waiting to finish the rest of the 26 hour drive once the road opened up. No detours, no dirt roads available, just sit there and swat flies wondering if you were ever gonna get home.

Oh man suicidal truck drivers!
I was on my way home from the last CODE Jacume race cruising along not on the toll road. Somewhat curvy highway but the kind you can carry speed through
This big rig is all over the road attempting over take and pass my ranger. I thought I was hauling *** but not enough for this guy, all up in my bumper and $&!t. I thought for sure he was gonna ram me. I bailed off the side of the road in the dirt and he goes flying by. Still going on the side of the road I pull in behind him and kept going at my regular safe for the condition pace. I did not even want to try to keep up with him.
I wonder what kind of truck driving school they have south of the border to pilot such a big vehicle loaded down at high speeds on cury canyon roads.

The guy that almost took me out did it on a curve with about 25 crosses on the side of the road right before it, AND the fresh wreckage of a Big Rig scattered all over the ravine..........
