Running 35's with total chaos toyota setup?

I know total chaos suggests 33" tires with the gen 1 or 2 kit for a 90 toyota 4runner. Anyone out there running a 35" tire with this setup? I assume the fenderwells in the front would have to be cutout a bit but other than that? I am running the stock links in the rear for now. Input?

The 35's in the front require fender wheel rebuilding. See TLT's red Tacoma build somewhere on their site to modify the fender wells. The rear fender wells cannot be clearanced for 35's if you want to keep it air/water tight. I've seen this done but it was really ugly. The 33's fit no problem front and rear with just minor clearancing. Oh, and dump the rear links and go leafs before you put money into it. You will just keep chasing problems and spending money, the leafs will set you properly for less to start.

thanks for the link. I assumed I would have to do something like that to the front. Not too big of a deal. As for the rear though. I wonder if that 3/4 of an inch off the lip would be enough. Guess I better start measuring.

BTW, what sorta problems with the rear setup are you talking about? (I might be getting into a wrong forum topic here)

Before I switched to leaf springs I ripped the 4-link mount off the axle housing twice on each side. I added gussets and then thought I would break something else next (like a link) so I swapped out for leafs. The cost of new, longer springs in the rear then beefing up the 4 link bars would have been way more than the leafs, u-bolt flip kit, shackles and front spring hangers.
I have not stuffed a 35 into the wheel well to see what would hit first. I think the body by the back door might hit first as that's where my 33's rubbed slightly before taking off that plastic trim and beating it a little bit with a hammer.
I see you are from the bay area? I will be at the next three Prairie City races in Sacramento (9/29, 10/14, 10/28).

I run 35s on my T100 (2nd gen. TC), a few inches cut back in the fender wells and up towards the top, i do run a 2" body lift with oversized lift blocks to reduce the stress on the body, its less work on the 3rd gen pickups and 2nd gen 4runners compared to the T100 (T100 body mount is farther forward), you probably could get away with it by eliminating the inner fender wheels with no body lift, that wasnt an option for me.

Here's a link to the article that y2kbaja mentioned. 35's will fit up front alright with just a little work, but I think it's a poor tire choice for that vehicle. Like y2kbaja already mentioned, modifying the rear wheelwells is a little more challenging, but the real issue is that they're just too big and heavy for such a little truck. We're running 35x12.5x17" BFG MT's on OMF beadlocked Alcoa wheels right now and the truck handled a lot better with 33x10.5x15's. 35's would be better on 15's, but I'd recommend 255/85/16's if you want to run something a little taller than a 33. I have a set and they're almost every bit as tall as our 35's, but they're quite a bit narrower (and a LOT lighter). The only thing is, BFG only offers them in a mud-terrain. I like 'em, but would prefer AT's. For the record, I think 33x10.5x15 BFG's are just about the perfect tires for most Toyotas. Anyway, that's two cents on tire selection.

yeah, south bay area. What springs do you suggest? I know deaver is a given but I really don't have the cash for em. I can fab up spring hangers and shackles similar to the TC ones. Got any pics/links of different lasf setups?

I went to my local wrecker and asked for 1/2 ton chevy springs, before I finished my sentence he asked if I was putting them on a Toyota. I used the longest 2 leafs and then scavaged to make the rest of the pack.

you like the 63's for prerunning? I have them on my crawler. What sorta travel can you cycle with those? Any pics?
