The loss of a fellow off-roader

Today we lost a fellow off-roader, a outstanding fabricator and a friend. Jim ( Harley) Doyle past away today, after battling cancer for a number of years. For those of you that have been arround off-road racing since back in the early 80's, Harley was one of the main fabricators that worked for Stroppe and built Rod Halls old Dodge class 4 race trucks. He will be missed by many. Rest in piece my friend!

Re: The loss of a fellow off-roader

I heard that Harley was the best, from what I heard he preped the Dodge's for Rod Hall when Rod won something like 37 races in a row!!!!!

If that story is even close to accurate, that is amazing to have that good of prep to win that many races in a row. Rod said Harley was the best prep guy that he could remember, he compared me to him at one point, and I felt that was an amazing compliment, and an almost impossible thing to live up to.

I heard he was very good at time management, and detail orentied with preparation of race cars. Not a lot of the last minute thrash fest right before a race like I know I have had

It is sad to hear about his family's loss, but good to remember his acomplishments in life!!

Myself and a co worker were talking about Harley's 30 something race prep victorys in a row, Rod Hall said that as soon as Harley left, his race winning streak stopped. The very next race after Harley moved on from Stroppe, Rod did not win. Harley must have known that there is no luck in race preparation.

My story is 3rd party, take it for what it is worth, but at least a couple of young guys are talking about what Harley did, so he must have left his mark. My thoughts are with his family.

We should never forget the people that helped build offroad racing. Some had their hand's on the wheel, some on the wrench's, other's on the gas can. This will always be more than sport. In his passing, I say thank you too a fellow offroader's commitment. Let us build from such great beginnings.
