The record for the bike race lies between 1350 and 1400 miles somewhere I think, set in 01 by the Honda team consisting of Johnny Campbell, Steve Hengeveld, Jonah Street, Craig Smith, Tim Staab, and I think Greg Bringle. I know we got third overall with over 1200 miles. Ourselves and second place were on the same lap, with us loosing to second by about 5 miles, but both still more than 100 miles behind the Honda team. Lap was 10 miles in length and ran from Sat. at 7 till Sunday at 7. I think they quit doing the car race quite a few years before the motorcycle/quad race ended. I think there was a very low finishing rate on the cars back then after 24 hours of whoops. I have no idea what the car record was, but if someone has an old Fud's Crud I am sure its in there. Car races were in even numered years and bikes in odd numbered years

Re: FUD 24 hour race
We did the car thing in class 5/1600 and 1600 in the Stans Auto Body cars. Although I did not race my brother and dad along with others won the 5/1600 class and the 1600 with Jimmy Ashley and Lofton got secound in 1600 behind I believe Scott Webster and crew. It was a blast but high attrition rate. Fud never had the reputation for setting up smooth fast courses.

Re: FUD 24 hour race
We have been talking about that race for years. we wanted to do it with a 2-1600 car and draw names out a bowl for who drives and who rides in the car for an hour or so. Once you have driven, your name goes into the "Rider" bowl and vice versa. It would be a fun way to get the pit crew and everyone that helps a chance in the car.

Re: FUD 24 hour race
A question to the forum.
How much interest would there be to having another race like this?
This is a serious question. To do something like this we would need major support not only in vehicles that would participate, but in volunteer support also.
I would have to say in the present situation we would have to count on every racer providing volunteers to help out with the race to maintian safety and logistics.
There is a group of us that have been thinking of trying to start another race series in Plaster City. This concept would be a great way to start.
Let me know here in this thread your thoughts.
Is it worth it to us to proceed with this?

Re: FUD 24 hour race
If somebody wanted to step and do something, this event could be huge. If an event could be put together with some type of marketing appeal, sponsors would probably jump on board.
Plaster City is a great place for this event.

Plaster City is a great place for this event.
Does that mean that I could count on SMD to support this Matt?
I would like to get your input as you guys know marketing.
Would really like to see a TL class race just for this.

Interesting question. I would think to be fair, it would be best to split it up into classes.
Does anyone have access to the old FUD way it was run?
Also would like input on how people would like this to be run.
The hard part of this is getting the BLM to let us run it.

Re: FUD 24 hour race
I think getting enough volunteers would be a pretty daunting task, look at how hard it is to get people just for the Dash, add in that it's 24 hours so there would deffinatley have to be fully staffed RXs and checkpoints(no skeleton crews), and that the nature of the race means that more people who would otherwise volunteer will be sitting in their pits waiting for a shot behind the wheel. More power to whoever gets it going, if I can't enter I'd be down to volunteer, both sound like a way to have a whole lot of fun..

Re: FUD 24 hour race
Part of the reason I posed the question was I couldn't find any info regarding
4-wheeled vehicles running this race. I think it would be an awesome event if it were run every other year.
Realistically, we would probably need to check with the BLM to see if they have a set limit for the number of races for Plaster city. Next would be finding a promoter willing to face the challenges of putting a race like this together. With the issues some people have raised with racing in Baja, I think it's time to look into providing something different for race teams in the U.S. I think a promoter would jump at the chance to offer the racers a unique racing experience.
As far as format, why not run it split into classes similar to the 24 of Le Mans. We already race this way, just not for six or eight laps, you race until the clock says it's time to stop. What was the time limit for the past BK1, fifty six hours. I didn't hear anyone complain about how long it took or the finishing rate.
Volunteers could be an issue, but if the race was held every other year it gives people time to prepare, I think it could be done, hell it's been done before with FUD. I know I'd be one of the first people in line to enter this race.
